Post your top 5 rock bands of all time

I'm interested in seeing what era most people's favorites come from and if there are more US bands or UK bands (or Scandinavian if you're Reaper16)

Clean sweep for the Brits for me.

1. The Beatles
2. Rolling Stones
3. Led Zep
4. Pink Floyd
5. The Who

Define band however you want. If you want to throw Elvis on your list, do it.

Top Five for me, really depends on my mood. Different tunes for different moods.

As others have said it depends on my mood. These 5 are ones I can listen to at any time.

Neil Young (especially with Crazy Horse)
Allman Brothers Band
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Pink Floyd
Beatles

Pearl Jam, Fleetwood Mac, Nirvana, Elton, Prince, Parliament and the Gap Band - yes. Those are all great artists and you shouldn't be ashamed to like them; even to strangers.

The early Jefferson Starship, sure.

I LOVE Fleetwood Mac. One of my all-time favorite bands, every single era. Peter Green, to the Kirwin/Spencer-fronted ensemble, then to Christine McVie/Bob Welch era, Stevie/Lindsey, Billy/Rick, Becca/Billy, back to Stevie/Lindsey (sans-Christine).

Fleetwood and McVie are SICK - everything they play has giant balls. Even You Make Loving Fun and Dreams, all the played out shit from Rumours still sounds amazing.

Nothing wrong with a whole buncha Mac at all.

Yeah, Fleetwood Mac I shoulda put with honorable mentions...the other stuff kinda of TIC, because I really love a lot of that stuff regardless of how great the artists were--it's the music that just takes me back to some great, great times.

gotchya. You'd be surprised at how many people think that the Experience were a 'real band'; it was all Jimi and, to a lesser extent, Mitch, aided by Kellgren and Kramer.

Jimi MADE Eddie Kramer's career.

that's a good way to be; I've found that there is inherently good and bad examples in everything - those who create, and then the imitators. It's pretty easy to seperate the good from bad.

I can totally see that - I'm a Neil disciple myself, and the apreggiated chords and the way he staggers notes lends itself to transferring to bass, that mode of playing. At least, it lends a fundamental working knowledge of the fretboard - Neil is def an atypical guitarist, not exactly a 'guitarists' guitarist' but totally created his own unique and identifiable styles.

Neil is one of my absolute favorites in everything he does; he's one of the truly rare 'rock' guitar guys who uses a completely different approach for acoustic playing as opposed to electric.
