Leonardo da Vinci

There appears to be no field of knowledge where Leonardo DaVinci has not made a contribution to the world: anatomy, physiology, mechanics, hydraulics, physics, philosophy, mathematics, writing, engineering, philosophy, orbital mechanics, botany, optics were all studied and revealed by his genius.

Leonardo da Vinci made the first real studies of flight in the 1480's. He had over 100 drawings that illustrated his theories on flight.

The Ornithopter flying machine was never actually created. It was a design that Leonardo da Vinci created to show how man could fly. The modern day helicopter is based on this concept.

I always thought it would be cool to write a fiction novel about DaVinci being a time traveler from the distant future stuck eternally in the 1500s

Yes, I know that. I was taking issue with the assertion that the modern helicopter is based on the concept of the ornithopter. Da Vinci came up with another design that resembled a rotating, screw-like flying machine.

I'd argue that that design is more akin to modern helos than the ornithopter.

If Leonardo di Crapio hadnt ruined your first name this century, I might have named my son after you.

This man was truly badass... and I feel that he had access to the Vaults of the Vatican, and documented what he found. I dont believe that he created all on his own, as his brother in law was teh Pope.

Bad ass nonetheless.

I was wondering why Google had Leonardo all over its logo today.
