Williams and Musial cancel out. I think some dark horse like Brecheen will make the difference.

Seriously though, this team depended a little more on base stealing. That's pretty rare for the Red Sox. Yadi should neutralize that. Most of their hitters have mid range home run power ranging from 9-17 HR. Every one of their starters slugs at least .415. Ortiz and Napoli are their big threats. Gomes and Nava split time in left. They went 6-0 in postseason starts by Gomes. Our right handed pitchers should keep him out of the lineup. SS Steven Drew hit 2-32 in the ALDS.

Craig should be back for DH or PH duty.

Honestly, I think this ends in 5.

I'm just not terribly confident who ends it.

For some reason when teams appear to be this evenly matched, often the dam breaks early and one side gets just enough momentum that all the breaks go that way and they just keep plowing forward. That was definitely how the 2004 WS went.

If I had to put money down it would be on the Cards stealing game 1 in Fenway then closing it out behind Wainwright in game 5 back home. But man, I could easily see it going the other way if Waino can't get the W and game 2 turns on us. Suddenly the matchups are no longer as favorable in game 3 and 4 and the series could be done before we blink.

Boston's a good team with a dynamic offense (they do a lot of things pretty well). Their bullpen is suddenly nails and they've been facing power arms for the better part of the last week so they're not going to be surprised by Wacha, Kelly and the bullpen firing 98 at them all day.

But I like our SP much more than I like theirs.

It's just a damn tough series to get a read on.

My best friend is a Boston fan, and he loves to rub shit in. He's elated at the match-up and anticipates Boston sweeping again. Even if we win, if we do so without sweeping, he will still say that we didn't sweep them like they did us. I still at least want to be able to rub it in his face that we won.

True, except they didn't do much against Verlander and Scherzer. Detroit was an absolute disaster from the pen. Two swings turned the whole series.

Game one would be huge if we could get it. Then they have to scrap against Wacha and although Buchholz is a good pitcher, he is certainly someone we could get to early as well.

Thank you for reminding me that Red Sox fans, with some exceptions, became insufferable douchebags after '04. I'll be rooting for St. Louis in this one.

I'd be willing to wager my next paycheck that neither team sweeps the other.

Right now, at this moment, we have the best two pitchers in baseball. Both are pitching lights out. Wacha may come back to earth. Boston makes pitchers work. But the demise of Wacha has been predicted since he went into the nuthouse of Pitt and man handled their crowd and bats.

Pitching rules the playoffs. Thats what is going to get us #12.

You guys see Mattingly's press conference. That was as honest as I've seen a manager. No way he comes back. Hope he doesn't take the reds or cubs job.
