Football Bucs not planning to extend Josh Freeman - Page 29

According to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, the Bucs won’t be extending Freeman’s contract, which expires after the 2013 season. And as Stroud explains it, the decision not to sign Freeman to a new deal could be part of a plan by coach Greg Schiano, who inherited Freeman, to get his own quarterback. And Freeman may change Schiano’s mind only by playing so well this season that Freeman leaves the Bucs with no other option than to use the franchise tag or sign him to a long-term deal.

One possibility would be to apply the non-exclusive tag and to see if anyone is willing to sign Freeman to an offer sheet and give up a pair of first-round picks. That would enable the Bucs to pull a reverse Keyshawn, giving up a player and getting two first-round picks 14 years after they gave up two first-round picks to get Keyshawn Johnson from the Jets.

The Bucs likely would settle for less, since the alternative will be to let Freeman walk away.

I like the following qualities about Geno better than Wilson:

-Proven success in multiple systems

-Three years plus of starting games in college

-A tighter, faster release on all his throws (though Wilson's is pretty damn good)

-Improvises when he gets forced out of the pocket, extends plays better than Wilson. And this also includes better pocket maneuverability than Wilson

-I have no idea about arm strength, but I think he might have a bit more distance on his throws. I have no idea, though.

-Accuracy on his short and mid-range throws is better than Wilson

What about compared to both their careers or even their last season? I like both personally. I do no think Freeman is the way to go. It was mentioned, but to me I think he is at best "just good enough". Geno or even Wilson could fail, but I also think they can be better than Freeman. Especially if getting him means we have to drop from 1 overall to 13.

Yeah, team results always have a debatable impact on individual performances and I understand the argument about good players win games (especially with regard to the QB position)

BUT, just from on field presence, throws to to sideline, throws to timed routes and deep passes. I saw some Wilson passes over 30 yards airtime on a rope while Gino's were more arched. Now that could be intended on those plays but it gave me the opinions I have now. I am ready for the combine. I also wanted to see Murray in the mix of this topic.

Just because you're gonna ask for it...

Things Wilson does better than Geno:

-Throws a prettier, more accurate deep ball

-Has a better sense of timing/does a better job of not throwing it late

-Better footwork, although Geno's missteps in this department are greatly overblown. He plants and throws, which is all I need to see

-Due to the Air Raid system, has more opportunities to show off decision making. Absolutely no reason why Geno can't match his level as soon as he gets to the pros, though.

The list of Petrino failures in the NFL is pretty long.

The list of successes is pretty short, as in zero.

Does that mean Wilson will fail? No. But it's absolutely a HUGE red flag.

Murray isn't coming out now.

I think Geno's throws on average have been meant to be floated in.

You forget list that Arkansas lost their 3 best WR's and their best DL.

But yet Tyler Wilson still looked very good this year.
