Regular season games can end in ties. The only reason penalties even exist is to ensure there is a winner in the end.

Scoring goals is very difficult in soccer when you're playing against professionals.

I wouldn't call it emasculating, but it's very weird to decide a championship with a contest that isn't really even in the spirit of the game. It's deciding a team game by individuals.

Yeah, I've never liked penalty shootouts to decide games, especially Cup finals.

Yeah, it's so far removed from the actual game... 7 shots on goal combined over 120 minutes, then the teams go 7/10 and 6/10 on penalty shots to decide it.

Yep. I hate it in the NHL as well, but at least they ditch it for the playoffs.

Hard to compare how soccer and hockey do it. Soccer is limited by how many subs they get. Hockey rotates 3-4 lines on offense and 2-3 lines on defense almost constantly. This gives players a break that soccer players do not get.

I don't think offsides should exist once the team possessing the ball is in the opponents half the field.

I think hockey got rid of the blue lines a while back and the game benefited.
