Pelosi:Restricting DoD Funds for Gender Transition Treatments Hurts Nat'l Security

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi slammed Republicans for trying to “rip away” health care for transgender service members.

In a statement Thursday, Pelosi said the “disgusting” attempt to restrict funds from being used to provide gender transition treatments is “unprecedented, unacceptable and undermines our national security.”

“Republicans should be ashamed: instead of protecting the men and women who risk their lives to defend our freedoms, they are fighting to rip away the health care of thousands of brave service members,” Pelosi said in a statement. “This cowardly Republican amendment targeting transgender men and women in uniform effectively bans these patriotic Americans from serving their country.”

Missouri GOP Rep. Vicky Hartzler filed an amendment to the House National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) which successfully moved through the Rules Committee.

If passed, the bill would entail that “funds available to the Department of Defense may not be used to provide medical treatment (other than mental health treatment) related to gender transition to a person entitled to medical care.”

While Colorado Democratic Rep. Jared Polis attempted to block the amendment moving to the floor, the Rules Committee struck down Polis’ attempt.

Polis serves as the co-chair of the LGBT Equality Caucus.

The reason for the amendment is that Hartzler believes pro-transgender policies reduce military readiness.

“Military service is a privilege, not a right,” Hartzler said in June. “It is predicated on winning wars and defeating the enemy. All decisions on personnel and funding should be made with this in mind.”...

ro-LGBT military organizations reacted in a similar way to Pelosi, calling the NDAA amendment “vile” and “vicious.”

I don't know why, it opens fine for me. No there is no list. But it does mention Paul Ryan didn't endorse the Amendment for it. You''l have to call your rep to find out.

This was in the link, which I thought was good:

Republican Rep. Duncan Hunter of California said people should decide what sex they are before signing up.

Yep! Really, though I FAIL to see how this hurts "national security." The Dems are truly loonies here on that claim.

Maybe they are worried that "women" that still have a wiener will be front heavy, forcing them to fall over in battle.

Pelosi is off her rocker on this one. I doubt she herself even believes that bullshit, melo-dramatic crap she just spewed up.

But this Hartzler **** is smoking some dope too. "Privilege"? Bitch please.

Taking a bullet for a bunch of rich politicians is no privilege. She's got it all ****ed up and backwards. It's a privilege to these greedy politicians for our citizens to sign up to fight their stupid wars.

**** Hartzler. **** Pelosi too.

"Privilege, not a right".

That dumb bitch. As if our servicemen are suppose to be thankful for the chance to take a bullet between the eyes, or get PTSD and then be thankful for the substandard medical care.

**** you Hartzler.

Maybe Hartzler think those folks are perverts, and that is why she proposed her amendment.
Libs want budget cuts to military so here you have a legit one that has zero impact on national security. Its a win for everyone. Hartzler is a great patriot.

That's not the point. Most everyone the last 30 plus years has served with someone who was gay and it was known.

The point is the Govt shouldn't pay for gender reassignment surgeries.

Its a ****ing mental illness that should be treated with counseling etc...not surgery unless they want to pay for it themselves.

Its not a risk to national security thats absurd.

I will say this, upon thinking more about this I figured the VA and military medical facilities all have a limited pool of resources. If this kind of shit gets monies earmarked and reduces the amount of legitimate medical care service members and veterans can receive that's really going to piss me off.

BTW, since you asked here's the list of Republicans that voted for it.

I am surprised that Justin Amish voted for it being a libertarian. He's supposed to be more libertarian than Ron Paul. Paul would never support this kind of spending. No one in congress seen to have noticed that we're really bankrupt.
These are the 24 Republicans who voted against the legislation that would have removed funding for transgender military members’ medical costs:

California Rep. Paul Cook
California Rep. Jeff Denham
California Rep. Steve Knight
California Rep. Darrell Issa
Colorado Rep Mike Coffman
Florida Rep. Carlos Curbelo
Florida Rep. Lena Ros-Lehtinen
Florida Rep. Brian Mast
Michigan Rep. Justin Amash
Michigan Rep. Jack Bergman
New Jersey Rep. Leonard Lance
New Jersey Rep. Frank Lobiondo
New Jersey Rep. Tom MacArthur
New York Rep. John Faso
New York Rep. Elise Stefanik
New York Rep. Tom Reed
New York Rep. John Katko
New York Rep. Claudia Tenney
Pennsylvania Rep. Ryan Costello

Pennsylvania Rep. Bill Shuster

From the same link I just posted:

Vote was close 214-209

Has an adverse effect on deployability apparently:

"The deployability of individuals going through the sex transition process is highly problematic, requiring 210 to 238 work days where a soldier is non-deployable after surgery,” Hartzler said. “This recovery time equates to 1.4 million manpower days where transgender personnel cannot deploy and fight our nation’s wars, therefore relying on an already stressed force to pick up the burden. It makes no sense to purposely recruit individuals who cannot serve.”

http://dailycaller.com/2017/07/14/th...der-surgeries/

AND

“By recruiting and allowing transgender individuals to serve in our military we are subjecting taxpayers to high medical costs including up to $130,000 per transition surgery, lifetime hormone treatments, and additional surgeries to address the high percentage of individuals who experience complications.”

So if they get hormone treatments for the rest of their lives, if they're transition to a woman they get more estrogen I assume and less testosterone. I would think that would make them less aggressive once transformed.

Maybe she just doesn't believe it's an essential health benefit and she'd rather see that funding go toward readiness improvement like buying a few more bullets and artillery shells.

A lot of spending on healthcare decreases readiness in this way, so it's up to our legislators to balance readiness with healthcare.
