It's time we ban pitbulls

Enough is enough. These dogs are way too strong & unpredictable. Plus, they are normally owned by the wrong people. Deadly combo right there.

This latest pitbull attack is absolutely heartbreaking.

A 14-month-old Wisconsin boy has died after a brutal attack by a pair of pit bulls, authorities said on Thursday.
Police received a call from Susan Iwicki, 30, on Wednesday saying that she and the young boy were being attacked by the dogs, according to local NBC affiliate WMTV. Iwicki told police that she and the boy had each sustained injuries.

The boy died of his injuries at a Milwaukee area hospital later on Wednesday, the Walworth County sheriff’s office said, according to The Associated Press.
The boy had the “biggest eyes, great smile,” family friend Valerie Brylow told local affiliate WTMJ. “He was a great little boy.”
“He is adorable, absolutely adorable,” Nicole Jennison, another family friend told the station.
The boy’s name has not been released, and an investigation continues. Both of the pit bulls were removed from the property and euthanized on Wednesday, WMTV reported.
The fatal dog attack was the first in Wisconsin in a decade, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Cochief, when the breed split is when the problem started. When Bloodlines got away from dogfighting and the word "pit bull" was done to death show dog people and dog fighters split and that was that. Dog men kept pit bull and show dog people couldn't distance themselves fast enough.
If I remember correctly this happened in the 30s.
The truth these days is that the dogs are so blurred that it would take ten years of study and a foot in the game to truely understand what is and what isn't.

this caught my eye because I own a bully, my second one. he's a sweetheart (pics in my profile). people often confuse mastiffs and bullmastiffs. a mastiff being the original big bubba going 200+ lbs....the bully be a cross between a bulldog and a mastiff going more 140/150-ish for males. amazing that at one point in time bulldogs were big enough to breed with a mastiff....think about that. todays diluted bulldogs would probably die giving birth.

mastiffs & bullmastiffs kill people from time to time, so of course it must be the breed...right? just a matter of time before other breeds get lumped in with the pits.
give me a pit puppy and come back in 3 years. I'll have a family friendly dog to show you, albeit one capable of deadly damage....just like my bully Dozer. my first one, Tank, helped teach my youngest to walk. deadly deadly animals!

Exactly. I'd say the same thing. I got to meet a real good looking 2 year old female out running around with no collar or leash. She ran right out in front of the patrol car and almost got hit by me and another. Unfortunately, from lines of thinking expressed in the media and this thread, my first thought was of hope I wouldn't have to shoot this dog.

I approached cautiously and called to her with as much confidence as I could muster at the time and very quickly realized how afraid she was. We made friends fast when I produced part of my lunch, a QT hotdog.

Turns out she had a chip. Owners recently moved to a new house about ten miles away. She got out one night and wondered for a out a day before she ended up in front of my work car.

Just happened the other night and thought I'd share. Point is, it's more the owner than the breed. I don't care for any pseudo expert telling me different.

I am going to get a couple of these and roll through the hood and see how bad ass those pits and their owners are, guaranteed they would go running for the hills in a NY minute.

Also about owner not breed bullshit, what about this breed? Ever seen Cesar Milan's pit Daddy? He has been owned by one of the top dog trainers in the world for 15+ years and Cesar still has to watch his ass like a hawk at feeding time so he doesn't rip some other dogs throat out. Explain that "owner not breed" people?

my parents neighbors had the sweetest dog ever...Sadie....she didn't know she was a pit!
the CAPABILITY of doing damage is in every dog. the AMOUNT of damage is breed specific and it doesn't get much higher than with a pit. but a shepherd, mastiff, collie, spaniel....they can all mess you up. it really is the owner for the most part. however, some dogs just ain't nice, regardless of breed. hell they're like people, you got good and bad. I raised an American Tundra Shepherd from puppyhood and she just....wasn't....ummm....overly friendly. yeah, I'll put it that way. I don't really think it was my fault...or hers I guess...just the way she was. family was fine, other people....hey is your dog nice? umm, no, not really!
