Shooting at Arrowhead- Chiefs player commits suicide

No details yet. Just came across on the news.

edit: Sources say the player is Jovan Belcher. Police have yet to confirm.

An unnamed Kansas City Chiefs player has committed suicide at the team facility and authorities are on the scene, the police confirmed to ESPN on Saturday morning.

Local reports say police are operating with the belief the player fatally shot his girlfriend at a house before driving to Arrowhead Stadium and killing himself at around 8 a.m local time. The Associated Press reported the player's age to be 25.

"We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning," the Chiefs said in a statement. "We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."

There were no other injuries at the team facility, police said.

The Chiefs (1-10) were preparing to host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The NFL has told the Panthers to travel as planned to Kansas City on Saturday, the Charlotte Observer has reported, citing interim general manager Brandon Beane.

As Marcellus stated she was interviewed by police and what she said should be in the official police report. The police will release it or the media will get it via Freedom of Information.

I doubt she will talk to the media unless to make her son look better.

Grief shaming.

Why not. Add it to all of the various shamings going on the internets these days.

Good article talking about the complexities of the team's grief and the handling of it.

When the facts come out that it was the mom who shot the girlfriend cause she insisted on putting the coffee cups where the glasses are supposed to go, all of this will seem so silly

ESPN is doing a story currently, that probably aired earlier.

Discussing the problems in remembering Belcher as a teammate and friend and also as a person who murdered the mother of his child. Winston seems sad and acknowledges that Charles was pretty distraught over the conflicting emotions of the incident.

"Some questioned whether the game should have been played as scheduled. Hunt said the decision was left to Crennel and the team, and when the Chiefs emerged from the tunnel before the noon kickoff — “Ladies and gentlemen, let’s hear it for coach Romeo Crennel and your Kansas City Chiefs!” — the ovation from the announced crowd of 62,860 was louder than what might be expected.

In the moment of silence, which preceding the National Anthem, Belcher wasn’t mentioned.

“In recognition of yesterday’s tragic events we ask that fans join the Chiefs organization in a moment of silence to remember all victims of domestic violence and their families.”

But players also remembered their teammate, Perkins and their daughter.

In the locker room, some wore T-shirts that included a photo of Belcher and “Rest in Peace.” Wide receiver Dexter McCluster, whose locker is next to Belcher’s, wore his during interviews.

As the last players filed in from the field, Pioli could be seen hugging each player. The doors closed and Crennel delivered perhaps the most emotional postgame speech of his career.

“You overcame a lot, you stuck together as team like we talked about, helped each other, family and friends, you relied on those people or you relied on your faith to help get you through this,” Crennel said. “And we got through it, in a grand way because everyone made a contribution, everybody helped. And that’s what a team is about.” "

After tragedy, emotions surge at Arrowhead Stadium

Anyone heard any major backlash about the Tshirts? I haven't. I showed the pics to both of my sons who said they'd probably wear one because they'd be remembering the friend they knew and loved not the one he was that morning.

I had to smile at their sense being mature enough to distinguish their love of the friend vs. judging him by his one time actions. My youngest son said 'that's your teammate, and what he did was terrible but you can't dog him when he's down, he's family.'

I understand the viewpoint, I just disagree with it. If someone in my family turns out to be a monster, I'm not going to view him/her as family anymore. Nothing trumps being a monster. That's just my view.

I understand. In the end that is why I struggle with religion and the whole forgiveness and judgment aspects of almost all of them.

I just don't think love is something that goes away with the flip of a switch. You can be pained by someone's actions, find them reprehensible, and want to distance yourself but if you truly love someone it can't be cancelled on a moment's notice.

Nor should it be according to most religions that aren't completely whack. Even then, there is a forgiving God and if it can forgive why shouldn't I? But then sometimes I don't WANT to. I want to hold on to my judgy. Like with Sandusky. So it's just easier not to look to religion for the answers and try to deal with this on an emotional plane which has it's own pitfalls. So you go to the logical plane which states that someone does something bad they don't deserve love...end of story. But that goes back to my previous point. How does one just cancel love they feel because someone does something terrible? They can't.

It's easy for all of us here who have NO personal knowledge of the players involved in this tragedy to say 'screw them' and then decide they fit neatly into _______ category. In reality, no one loving someone in a healthy fashion and manner can simply switch off that love. It either wasn't there in the first place or they are fooling themselves.

That's how long it would take to fire 9 shots.

The number of times he shot her has ZERO relevance unless he stopped for a few seconds then went in for a kill shot or had to reload or whatever. I certainly don;t know since I wasn't there and no facts are available. Kinda my point.

To be clear I am not making excuses, Hell it could be far WORSE than what many are assuming. I am just admitting that I have no clue and not enough facts to make any kind of reasonable guess as to the circumstances.
You and Dave are both right. You are correct in that we don't have all the facts and we can only speculate and Dave is correct in that because Belcher emptied his clip into his GF in front of his mother no less, tells you Belcher had severe passionate pent up animosity that was impulsively released on his GF.

Forensic Psychologists will tell you when someone is shot or stabbed many many times over beyond what is needed to kill (a la overkill) this is a HUGE CLUE into the mind and heart of the killer and that this is PERSONAL. And emptying a clip into your GF in front of your mother is some serious personal animosity that goes waaaaay beyond "just coming home late" BUT can be the little fire to light the fuse however.

Usually multiple stabbing/shooting murders involve the killer absolutely DETESTING the victim.

Any thoughts on the grief process from an organizational psychology standpoint?

Or detesting something of which the victim is the unfortunate target of the rage. I think his rage will have less to do with Kassandra and more to do with long lying demons after all is said and done.

Hell, since everyone else is speculating I will throw my "guess" out there.

She has been cheating on him, the baby possibly isn't his, and she told him this much while he was on something or coming off something.

I am assuming he probably suspected it ahead of time, thus building up enough hatred and anger to unleash like he did. Normally he could have contained it.

It is all speculative bullshit, but still a possibility.
