2012 Kansas City Royals Repository Thread

2012 Slogan: Our Time

A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year
(from Great Expectations)

An alternative slogan if you don't like that one: Someone has to win this crappy division
(from alnorth)

With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:

Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

If you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

He is attractive to the Royals because despite what the Mets want they won't be getting a top shelf OF and catcher. We could acquire him without losing Myers for sure.

The Mets need outfield and catching help. We can't help them at catcher, but if they are serious, I think Cain + a pitcher + a throwin could do it. R.A. Dickey's mid-70's mph knuckleball is a freak of nature and he's been good for 3 years now. He could help us win.

Proposal for Dickey:

1) OF Jorge Bonifacio (B+ prospect)
2) C Cam Gallagher (B prospect, still 2-3 years away, but a very intriguing catching prospect. Good offense with a glove that SHOULD stick)
3) (If necessary) Relief pitcher (Crow, Collins, Coleman)

This doesn't give the Mets any real immediate help, but I doubt they're going to get MLB-ready, good upside returns for one-year of Dickey.

Just throwing something out. It's an intriguing proposal... knuckleballers have a different shelf life, and he'd be a unique guy (especially in the AL, where he'd be new to most hitters).

He's even unique by knuckleballer standards. I didn't realize he had a fast knuckleball, no one I know of has ever thrown a knuckleball in the mid or high 70's before. That pitch is so crazy, that pitching coaches should look into whether thats a teachable pitch for prospects who fail. He also has a slow knuckleball and a change.

He'd probably be an acceptable starter... but I can't believe Dickey would be a Cy Young guy in the AL.

I wasn't thinking about using Cain, but that wouldn't be a bad option at all.

I like his defense and would love to see what he can do in CF full time (because the alternative is either Dyson or playing Myers there full time). But pulling Dickey back in return is worth the risk.

Actually, what's probably gonna happen is DM will snatch up Jurrjens and then proclaim he's got his ace and completed his staff.

There's just no question that he's an embarrassing, lying sack of shit in practice. What we don't know is what he's paying himself and his family, and thus he's able to claim "Breaking even!" and could probably even produce the doctored bottom line to prove it.

Anyone who would even start to defend him at this point is a fool at best.

Royals might nontender Paulino

Words cannot adequately describe my level of rage if they keep Hochevar and cut Paulino. I would be furious.

As if we needed any other confirmation that Hoch was DM's draft pick, which has always been obvious anyway.

This would be the most Dayton Mooreish of all Dayton Moore decisions.
