If not #1, where?

The draftniks keep saying that Geno Smith isn't worth the #1 pick.
None of them say he isn't the top QB in the class though.
If we don't take him at #1 how far is he realistically going to fall?

I see no scenario where he falls out of the Top 10.

So if he's the top QB in a weak class...
QB is our biggest need...
And he's gonna go Top 10 anyway...

Why not at #1?

Am I wrong to say he won't fall out of the Top 10?

Discuss...

Right or wrong, they will get overdrafted. Always happens.
After the Jets pick at 9, I really don't see any of the remaining teams picking a QB.

That could change if Tampa Bay trades Josh Freeman though.

I'll ask you this, would you be ok taking Joeckel and waiting til the second round to get a QB, Glennon, Geno, Wilson, and Barkley go off the board, and you are deciding between Nassib or Landry Jones, one of whom is likely to be your starter.

Teams now know that without something resembling an ace at quarterback, you're just spinning your wheels in the current incarnation of the NFL.
That happened in 2011. If Del Rio and Gene Smith weren't trying to save their jobs, there's no way Blaine Gabbert goes at #10. Same goes for the Titans and Jake Locker. Locker has struggled with accuracy issues his entire career, yet he was a high first rounder. What's happened? He's struggled with accuracy issues in the NFL.

Jimmy Johnson called Christian Ponder the NFL's worst QB this past season. Where do you think that team would be if A.P. was replaced by a Vick Ballard? 1-15? 2-14?

Teams will inevitably reach for a few years because of the new CBA but once they realize they ARE reaching and that these guys aren't worth their draft position, we'll see things get back to "normal", i.e., pre-2010.

I guess to put it bluntly, the tape isn't good enough for any Senior QB in this class to skip the senior bowl imo.

The senior bowl shows how they prepare, lead, and grasp a playbook. How well they are able to adapt and execute during a short period of time. For Geno, it would show how he handles snaps under center with better talent around him. Many feel Geno suffered from a lack of surrounding talent at WV and cite that as the reason for his struggles at times.

I think some could see skipping the senior bowl as a "red flag" as far as these guys go.

Just don't see this happening. I think teams will look to the tape first and foremost.

I still put my faith in our staff to choose the right guy though.

I believe Geno probably is BPA.

When you are grading players, obviously you grade on a curve based on position. To illustrate that, if we had a guy in the draft who was regarded as the very best kicker in the entire decade, there is no way he'd go early, probably not even the first round. He would not be BPA, because that position is not as valuable.

The lack of a good QB is utterly devastating to a team without one, and this is not like kickers where the worst kicker really isn't that much worse than the best, the dropoff from the best to the 2nd-tier QB's in the draft is huge. Some people are acting like Geno is clearly a 2nd-day player, but he isn't. He's a first-round player in any draft, including last year.

I don't think we'll be this foolish in the draft room. I think they will try to trade our 1st overall pick to move down.

They would have to know that that QB is for sure not going in the top 10. Teams have a general understanding of who teams like by the draft.

As each press conference and statement from Clark Hunt pass, I see the chance of us drafting Geno Smith at #1 at less than 10%. They seem to be dropping trial balloons to prepare the rapid fans it may not and probably will not happen.

I have to trust them.....blind loyalty

I agree... I do not think they will look at a QB with the #1 pick. I personally want a QB but, I don't see it happening there with Dorsey or Reid.

You know just **** the QB position. They are only a myth. You know there will never be one worthy of anything. They can't win anything. Just **** Flacco, Rodgers, Bradford, Stafford, or any of them. They all suck in their own right. Manning is a choker, Brady can't win the big one anymore. You know they are not a sure thing. They can't or won't win anything. Whether it is because of their talent level or the coach. RGIII is broke and won't be any good anymore. Luck that guy wouldn't have been any good this year if it wasn't for ChuckStrong.

Come the **** on guys. Geez this is all ridiculous.

I dunno. I think with the new CBA and rules the way they are, teams will always reach for the QB, based on the fact that you can't win if you don't have one.

I think teams might start giving said early drafted QB less time to show one way or another tho. Instead of the basic 3 years, it might be 2.

Geno Smith is a FAR better prospect than ANY of those three.
