Can KC make it to the AFCCG this year?

I have said I think that's where this team is headed this year and I'd like to gauge how the rest of you feel about our chances this year.

Outside of center, I can make a legit case for why we improved at every position on the team this offseason and we won 9 games against a very tough schedule last year...even after losing difference makers everywhere.

Berry
DJ
Devito
Avery
Allen (was looking like a solid RT when he got hurt)
Jamaal said he was constantly hurt last year, giving reason Andy didn't utilize him as much as he did in 2013

I think this teams floor is the divisional round and it's ceiling is the Super Bowl, but I tend to see the glass half full.

What do you guys think?

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to get that in a YAC predicated offense, guys with elite athleticism and YAC ability seen through avg yards per catch can have success in this offense.

Case and point Albert Wilson. 260 yards on only 16 ****ing catches last year

209 of that came in a 3 game stretch in December once he was healthy.

An indicator that he could do a lot more next year.

I don't know about all of that.

Our defense should be flat out nasty against the pass.

We should be killing quarterbacks and making lots of plays on the ball.

Depends on a few factors, I guess.

Are we winning games?
When we need him to step up, does he?
Is the offense effective in yardage and scoring?
How does he perform in the big games and in the post season?

This is his make or break year IMO.

If he underperforms and it costs the team football games, there's no question he needs replaced sooner rather than later.

This doesn't make a good argument for WRs. Part of a WRs job is to get open, which will reflect on the number of catches he makes. A shit WR isn't likely to average 10 catches per game...

Meanwhile, a shit RB can be handed the ball 40 times a game every game just as a great RB can do the same. It takes no skill to receive a hand off.

No...average to below average offense follows Alex wherever he goes.

It's a fact of life and one that will prevent us from ever competing. You guys can pretend we're close, though. Keep praying! Peace love hope!

That's not right.

Not every running back is cut out to be a workhorse.

I'd say with the secondary ticket market as accessible as it is there's no reason the Chiefs can't get to a conference championship game. /thread

This is why I dont think this team can or will make the AFCCG...

With all of these "upgrades" to the offense (Maclin is legitimately the only upgrade I can see on paper). Rewind to the Arizona game, if you put this offense in that situation do you believe Alex Smith doesn't throw 4 lateral passes? I don't.

And then with everyone thinking that just because 1st year players showed flashes of talent and now they are going into their 2nd season so they must be better........... Marcus Cooper.

That means a wildcard game against someone like Brady, Manning, Luck or Rothlesberger/Flacco/Dalton.

Maybe get a postseason win against Dalton. Other than that, I don't see it. Alex is too bi-polar.
I know this is going to bring a shit storm down, but I don't really think Smith is bi-polar. He has been the same player, really steadily now since about 2009. Many of you really don't like his style of play, but it hasn't really changed.

He takes what the D gives him and what his pass pro allows. Period. He won't force balls. Period. Dude isn't open, he moves to his next progression, if it is open he pulls the trigger, if it's not, he moves on. This continues until he is forced to scramble, throw it away, or takes a sack.

In 13 when the line improved and Avery was picking up his game, everyone was fairly happy with Smith's play. In 14 when the line returned to shit, Avery was hurt much of the year and smith was stuck with Jenkins etc. as targets he returned to eating the football and going to his outlet receiver or Kelce.

I didn't mention Bowe here, not as a slight to Bowe, but rather as an acknowledgement that Bowe isn't the right receiver for Smith... or Smith not the right QB for Bowe. Bowe is the type of receiver that has the mindset "just throw me the ball, it doesn't matter if I'm covered, I'm bigger and stronger than the dude defending me, I'll catch it." Smith just sees "covered" and moves on. Bowe needs a Flacoo-esque QB. Flacco loves to throw into coverage and let his receivers go get it. Smith never had that type of receiver to learn to trust anyone to do that.

But Smith has been the same guy through it all. Same style of play, but different circumstances around him. He won't force the football. He was burned way too often and took a massive ration of shit for it in SF. For better or worse, this formula has led to most of his success and he has stuck to it religiously for a number of years now.

Put a decent line in that allows a 3 to 5 step drop, put in route receivers like Maclin and hopefully Wilson, and I think you'll see Smith start stretching the field again like he did at the end of 13. He will take what is there, when it's there. Same guy - like it or not.

This is another one that concerns me. I keep falling into the trap of just thinking DJ and DeVito are back so all is good. Tough injuries to come back from. Only time will tell on that one.
