****Official 2013-14 Missouri Tiger Football Repository Thread****

We have two things to look forward to this year:

1) The potential beginning of the Maty Mauk Era. Mauk represents the best chance for this program to get back to a level of respectability after horrendous QB play cost us multiple games last year.

2) The last year of the Gary Pinkel era. Pinkel's entrenched cronyism won't play in a conference this competitive, especially if he couples his abysmal gameday coaching with lackadaisical, worst-in-conference recruiting. Pinkel was the formerly adequate meal that has now turned into a four pound bowel obstruction. It's time to jam a Fleet's enema up our collective asses.

Here is the schedule. We dodge Alabama, LSU, and Arkansas in the west and the Non-con is decidedly weaker than years past.

8/31: Murray State
9/7: Toledo
9/21: @ Indiana
9/28: Arkansas State
10/5:@ Vanderbilt
10/12: @ Georgia
10/19:Florida
10/26: South Carolina
11/2:Tennessee
11/9: @ Kentucky
11/23: @ Ole Miss
11/30: aTm

Looks like 6-6. Undefeated in non-con, 2-6 in league play.

I will eventually update the OP with a list of high profile in-state recruits that decide to go elsewhere after a half-assed attempt to gain their services. The inevitable cavalcade of *** rejects, skeezers, skanks, and scalliwags we get will fill out the ranks.

Razors, cyanide capsules, and Jonestown Kool-Aid are available in the break room. Second door on the left.

Since every Mizzou thread eventually dies of AIDS, I recommend starting anti-retroviral therapy immediately. I believe Walgreens covers Express Scripts.

Premium In-State Players:

Roderick Johnson: **** OT, Florissant, MO.
Monte Harrison: **** WR, Lee's Summit, MO.
Jimmy Swain: **** LB, Lee's Summit, MO

Commitment List: From to and possibly

Spoiler!

I like to think of myself as a pretty honest but positive fan. And I just have a really hard time finding anything positive to say about most of Missouri's recruiting efforts. There are some solid gets in there, but much more fail.

They seem to be picking up guys so they can build relationships in key areas. A staff in its 13th recruiting cycle at a school should not be dealing with that type of shit any longer.

Here's the question I have:

I know that Missouri wants to make inroads into Georgia, Florida, and Louisiana for the speed and athleticism. Was there any desire or a push to redirect energy to Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan to offer a unique opportunity, while keeping the same foothold in Texas, rather than getting the guys who were passed over by eight SEC schools with the idea that you could somehow build inroads that way?

It just strikes me as an ambitious, yet terribly foolish plan that relegates them to perpetual serfdom.

I'm not a big MU football guy, but this is what I've been thinking.

Why go try and build repertoire with an area that will be picked clean by programs your competing with?

I mean reality sets in here, MU just isn't the power program to do that just yet so think outside the box, get creative and get kids until you build yourself in a league

They're trying to build inroads in Florida, Georgia the same way they did in Texas. "it worked before." I think they've realized that shifting so much attention away from Texas last year was a mistake and tried to move back in there this year, but it has been harder to get back in than they thought (instead of selling "we're in the sec now" they now have to come crawling back).

I agree whole-heartedly they should be aggressively recruiting kids from Kansas, Iowa, Illinois and selling the "play close to home, but play in the best league" pitch EXTREMELY hard.

Lot of opportunities lost there.

All I hear about in college FB discussions is Mizzou has forever consigned themselves to cellar dweller status in the SEC.

I'd like to offer evidence to the contrary but I'm at a loss.

It's actually a pretty attractive job if they pull the plug on Pinkel quickly enough and don't let him crater the program.

They will pay $2.5-$3 million. Big in-state school becoming much more competitive in facilities (especially compared to other midwestern schools). Decent home state for recruiting. Good sales pitch to talent in surrounding areas (Illinois, primarily). Ability to recruit Texas, Florida and Georgia as "secondary" recruiting areas and supplement roster with 3-star talent from those states.

Good recent success. Top 25-30 fanbase.

It's hard to see Pinkel turning it around with this staff, though. With a new coach - who brings in a couple of football equivalents of Tim Fuller (who is crushing basketball recruiting, BTW) - things would look much different, in a hurry.

Missouri just needs a good coach. The stadium is still, and always will be, a joke unless they decide to build a replacement for Hearnes elsewhere, raze that area, build a stadium in its footprint and then turn Faurot into the parking lot.

It's not like the University doesn't have big-time boosters. It has two major population centers to draw from. There's no reason Missouri can't get a Kevin Sumlin or Hugh Freeze type coach. Of course, to get one they may have to can Alden first. I don't know if a new chancellor will precipitate that or not.

Missouri will never be Florida or Georgia, but South Carolina, Arkansas, and Ole Miss don't have massive institutional advantages over them. That should be the goal, and although difficult, it is attainable.

If they're the ones I'm thinking of, at least two have major issues. I know the third, personally...the one going to Nebraska...good kid...not sure how he's going to Nebraska for the right reasons, though. Hope it works out, but I have my doubts.

I'm talking about Micheal Rose who's going to be a solid linebacker, Malek Collins who I think has a very high ceiling, and recent commit Monte Harrison (not sure how hell do but a 6"4 4* star).

You know the kid who was a guard at rockhurst if I recall. I have no idea how those kids transition in college at that position. Who were the other 2?

Michael Rose was a Nebraska fan from the jump (through his dad).

Harrison is likely playing pro baseball, and Missouri was hurt more in that recruitment by baseball coach Tim Jamieson than by Pinkel's staff. Jamieson makes Bruce Walker look like a recruiting dynamo (and also is really resistant to guys who want to play baseball and football).

Collins was a weird loss and a guy they should have locked up.
