Marvel Surprise: Robert Redford In Talks To Star In ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’

EXCLUSIVE: Here is a fun Marvel scoop. I’m hearing that Robert Redford is in discussions to join the cast of Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger, the sequel that brings Chris Evans back as the shield-carrying superhero. Redford is in talks to play a senior leadership role in S.H.I.E.L.D., the superhero collective run by Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury character. Joe and Anthony Russo are directing the film from a script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, whose Marvel script credits include Captain America: The First Avenger and the upcoming Thor: The Dark World. The sequel will be released by Disney April 4, 2014.

In between running his Sundance empire, Redford most recently starred in All Is Lost, the J.C. Chandor-scripted and directed survival tale. While Marvel was predictably mum as Kevin Feige’s unit always is on casting matters, Marvel characters have a tendency to show up in other superhero movies, and I believe that is likely to be on the menu for Redford. It will be somewhat ironic for the patriarch of independent cinema to become a regular in some of Hollywood’s biggest studio blockbusters. Redford’s repped by WME

These "survivors" are Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen, respectively. Strucker's assistant hints that the twins were the only two to survive experiments they had conduct with the help of Loki's staff.

Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch, brother and sister from the comics. He is haughty and kind of obnoxious, can run at super-speed, and is very protective of his sister; she is emotionally somewhat fragile and is capable of throwing 'hexes' which make the improbable - a rope breaking, a water main rupturing, that sort of thing - more likely to happen. (Judging by the clip, though, they may just make her telekinetic.) They were at first villains, then became long-time Avengers later on, an arc which they could very easily follow in the movies.

Well, Sin City was based on comics (as were Road to Perdition, A History of Violence, and How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days), but it doesn't have much in common with the superhero genre.

Saw this tonight. You would think for a movie subtitled "The Winter Soldier", that The Winter Soldier would be in the movie for more than a compiled 10 minutes or so. They could have taken Winter Soldier right out of the film, and it would not have affected the plot in the slightest.

Its like he shows up to advance the story, sticks around a couple minutes, and we don't see him again for 15-30 minutes.

Didn't really care for the main plot of the story either. It had some really cool action sequences in there, and they finally showcased what Cap can do without resorting to putting all the good stuff into a montage, but a couple of those sequences with Cap were inspired by a much, much better story in the comics called "Civil War".

It was a good way to spend a couple hours, but whoever decided to put with the trailers that this is better than The Avengers is smoking some serious crack.

Cap's portrayed infinitely better and has his abilities showcased more than in Avengers, but Avengers is by far superior to this.

That whole HYDRA infiltration of SHIELD was a pretty unbelievable load of crap to be honest. As if a plan to create three hulking helicarriers with the ability to murder hundreds of thousands of people on the planet on command via satellite targeting was something a sane Government Agency would go forward with. Nobody saw a problem with that. Killing people before they've even committed any crimes, because a computer program suggests that they might do it based on their past. lol.
