Is there really a rule on this?

I am not sure if there is a rule, but the committee typically tries to set up brackets where conference opponents do not play until at least the sweet 16, and the elite eight where possible. Given that KU/MU are now in different conferences, I do not know of any rule that would prohibit an SEC/Big XII match up in the second round of the tourney.

Yeah, as a fan of WSU (second favorite team) I don't see them currently being a 9 seed. They just lost at home to Evansville. I think they're firmly a bubble team unless they win @Creighton tomorrow and win two games in the tournament.

However, the thought of beating MU or WSU does give me a rather large chub.

MN is not really correct. He's right that they are in different conferences, but the fact is, MU will not be playing in KC. The comittee rewards top-4 seeds with close venues. Since KU is in that conversation, they will be in KC. The other slot will either go to K-State (highly likely), or maybe a Creighton, someone like that.

MU will not be playing in KC because they are not successful this year. And because of that, they will not be playing KU in the 2nd round.

I strongly suspect Lunardi has a better grasp of the bracketing rules than anybody here. Considering MU is in the SEC now, I know of nothing that would stop them from playing KU in the 2nd round of this tournament.

Well, the top four seeds are pretty much guaranteed to play as close to home as possible. For the other seeds, they are seeded as close to home as seeding scenarios allow. The NCAA has put an emphasis on keeping teams close to home ever since they instituted the "pod" system, allowing them to have games from different regionals in the same arena for the first two rounds.

I agree with KC_Connection...Lunardi knows the rules of the selection committee inside and out, and he would not publish a bracket that would violate any of those rules. Will it happen that way? Tough to say, because there is still a lot of bball to be played. But I think if it is Lunardi's bracket, it means that it is a possibility and within the rules of the selection committee.

Or, perhaps Lunardi (like all humans) is prone to making an error from time to time? The pod system is set up to reward top-4 seeds. Lunardi may not remember 2009 when OU and Memphis got to play in KC, while Kansas was shipped up to Minny as punishment for finishing with a lower seed. It was a mystery to Kansas fans when it happened, but it wasn't a mystery to anyone who had been following the Pod system.

Putting KU in KC is rewarding them. That doesn't stop MU from playing there too.

You know the committee will do their best to put KU and MU as close as possible in the bracket.

The difference is that there were no losses outside of the skid (yet).

And it's TCU man. They are shit.

This isn't one of the better teams we've had here. On the other hand, some of the better teams we've had didn't perform well. I thought the team that lost to VCU was a FF lock. I thought last year's team was a lock for S16 exit. I'm good. I'm having fun watching ball, but this team is not all that good. The good news is neither is anyone else.
The Big 12 was supposed to be down this year but last I checked, the Big 12 was the 3rd ranked conference. OSU, KSU, KU, ISU, OU, and possibly Baylor will make the NCAA tourney. Not bad for a down year.

Just checked, KU and MU playing in KC together would be highly unlikely. But as others have said they'll likely try to put them close. Lunardi is just a kid with toys right now.
