It's another example of this show forcing plot points to happen at the expense of the characters that the show has spent so much energy on building and developing.
I agree and I don't.

Mike wanted Saul to do it. Saul is a coward (or just really ****ing smart). Jesse offered. I buy that Mike didn't want Jesse to do it to the extent that he didn't want Jesse to get caught. I like Mike's consistent fatherly protection of Jesse.

The only other option was Walt.

But, it did feel strained and for plot's sake more than I would have liked. But the logic holds up, I think.

There's no real reason Saul couldn't have done it himself. Saul could have sent Bill Burr's character, even. If Jessie and Walt hadn't been in Saul's office at that exact time then Saul would have taken care of it. So, yeah. Strained.

I think you can have some poetic license when the results are the kind of scenes that book-ended last week's episodes.

I have to say I've seen just about enough of mopey Skyler though.

The time Walt ran over the two thugs he did it because he wanted Jesse's help in cooking. This time, however, the kill was pure crazy and it signals the shift in Walt's character.

What's not great is seeing the same scene play out with Skyler 2742 times this season. Hence the comment about being tired of seeing mopey Skyler.

You're supposed to be sick of Skyler. Walt's sick of Skyler. She's his wife. She's doing what a wife would do. But, yeah, it's not enjoyable. It's probably feeding into Walt's increased view of himself as a larger than life folk-hero. He's king in that world. He wants to be in that world because he's feared and respected. It's an escape.
