I wonder what the distribution of career incomes is for players who at one time or another make it to a 53 man roster? I think it would be pretty eye opening to these kids who think they have it made once they make it to the NFL. I bet the median career earnings is below $1M, which isn't enough to retire on at age 25.

As you point out, even the vets that are in their prime can be out of the game before they know it. If I were an NFL player, I would live like a pauper until I had at least $4M in the bank.

I might try to do something about a top 100 list, based on snaps over the last 2 years. My time on this is really going to be crunched over the next month, so we'll see.

It only took me about an hour, so doing it again 3x isn't a big deal since we have several days.

I feel people should be rewarded for any work they do researching the FA list.

I'm guessing a lot of people will just try to snipe anyone someone is bidding on anyway.

You could sprinkle some rotten Easter eggs among your bids. Players that look good with respect to stats but have significant "Goodell issues" if you dig deeper. Maybe you'll end up enticing someone into giving a 5 year contract to the next Ray Curruth. How sweet would that be?

I just went through the whole process and overall, I like it. It's simple and efficient. However, there has to be a mechanism that changes pricing dependent upon position. There is no reason why signing my punter long term costs as much as signing my qb or wr long term. Or full back or guard or center. In a sense, it penalizes people who invest a high draft pick in a top notch kick returner, but then can't rationalize keeping them around because it will mean costing the same as an elite lt to do so.

I have successfully combed the FA database and pruned it down to 63 players I have interest in. Come at me, sandboxers.

Also, WHERE THE HELL ARE MY PUNTERS, CDCOX? *snaps fingers*

I feel like I'm in a pretty good spot. I think I should end up having around $100 per hole that I REALLY need to fill in free agency. Hopefully that means I can get my pressing needs met and then make a few additional upgrades from there.

The $0 1-year contract is a lifesaver. It allows me to keep some brokedicks around and upgrade if I get the chance.

Interesting point. We'll think about that.

Additionally, I feel like there should be a 1 year limit on the rollover.

Otherwise it makes it awfully easy for a team to hoard its $$ for a couple of seasons and just blow the hell out of the salary scale.

Yeah, I'm kind of torn about having any rollover at all. Or perhaps there's a rollover tax of 50% or something. What do you think?

It should be like the real NFL where the salary cap goes up a certain percentage every season to account for bigger contracts that will happen.

Others may have this problem too, but JR Sweezy is listed as a FA and he was drafted as Mr. Irrelevant.
