Teams Doing Great In The Offseason

Free agency is young right now, but I think right now the top three teams that have benefitted the most are the Broncos, Patriots, and Dolphins. All three have been very active, have made some great acquisitions, and should be contenders next year.

I think the Chiefs have also been one of the most active teams in the offseason, and have done really well considering their resources. We couldn't gnab Macklin or Feeley, but we've already grabbed three solid-to-great additions with decent money.

I'd put us in the top five in offseason performance right now, but I don't think we've taken the leaps and bounds that those three teams have.

The Patriots have been active, but the deal they gave Wes Welker pushes them out of the top 3 IMO.

. I know this is only the 4th day and a big deal (Holthus) is on the way. I think your statement is about right for top five..... are there more than 5 teams that have done anything Also, we have more resources but King Carl is holding back for his annual bonus.

I agree. I think that was a very big pick up for the Pats. I can't believe that Miami would trade him to a AFC East rival.

I would have traded him to a division rival if they were offering THAT. It's WES WELKER.

We'll see who gets the better of this deal. In 2 or 3 years expect me to drag it from the rubbish and compare Welker versus the 2nd and 7th that Miami has.

I don't feel bad about it at all.

Welker has good hands and he gets in and out of routes well, just what the Patriots offense calls for. Alil too much for him but a good pickup for New England and Better one for Miami.

It doesn't surprise me that you don't value your 2nd-round pick that much.

Winning 3 Super Bowls in the first half of one decade tends to do that to a person.

LOL

Seriously, I think picks represent potential value in the form of a good player. A bottom of the 2nd round pick (what the Pats have at #60) has a small chance of being a great player, a good chance of being a good player, and a good chance of being a mediocre or terrible player.

Welker is, in my mind, a good, all-around player. Not a great player, certainly, but a good one. He's also very good on STs, which fans typically underrate, but BB and company do not.

So to me, the trade might be a little bit steep, but it's not that bad.

I've seen too many Bethel Johnsons, Marquise Hills and other 2nd round picks turn out to be a great big zero for us to sweat it that much.

Oh, and don't forget, WR is a position of need for the Pats. I hav eno idea what is available in the draft (I'm not a draftnik), but I imagine the Pats decided that nobody could fill that slot WR need like Welker out of the draft for them as well, and/or not iwth the 2nd round pick or later.

They need to spend some picks on DB/LB, so...

Yeah, but honestly... while everyone in the media is bound to say only positive things about the Patriots... I'm not sold on the notion that Welker can be a player that is worthy of those picks and that contract. Time will tell.

I think Miami has done a damn fine job of cleaning house, trading players for picks - picking up Porter and ridding themselves of guys that have done nothing. We'll see how it all unfolds, but they have a lot of talent.

IMO, there will be 2 or 3 WR's available at #60 that will be better than Welker.

I think Miami has done well also. I wouldn't be upset this offseason as a 'phinsfan.

But they have alot of catching up to do. Their offensive talent is not very stellar.
