Geno Smith fans roll call

NEW THREAD HEADER (11/17/12):

The list is gone. We will all be Geno Smith fans when he gets drafted by the Chiefs. For historical documentation's sake, I'll keep the list in a separate post on this thread: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showp...postcount=3314

WHY GENO SMITH?
If you're wondering if Geno Smith is right for you, check out this brilliant post by Saccopoo:

http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showp...postcount=5388

Next, we have a few GIFs you may be interested in from the Oklahoma game. Insane potential. These are the elite throws that very few QBs can make. What more can I say? Geno Smith can be a franchise QB in the NFL, and the Chiefs need to take a shot on him.

GIF #1:
Spoiler!

GIF #2:
Spoiler!

GIF #3 (My favorite):
Spoiler!

HOW DO WE GET HIM HERE?

Glad you asked. I posted this checklist earlier. It probably belongs in the thread header, and will be updated as the Chiefs close out their season and start a new chapter in their franchise story.

Preparing for Geno Smith's Arrival In KC Checklist

1. [X] Lose games and acquire the #1 overall pick
2. [X] Get Pioli and the Patriot Way cronies the **** out
3. [X] Hire new GM/coach

OPTIONAL (but highly recommended):
4. [ ] Re-sign/tag Bowe, who really wants to play in KC with Geno
5. [ ] Re-sign/tag Albert

Is it possible for draftbreakdown to ever become a pay site like PFF?

I'm fairly certain it'd be illegal, but I'm just checking.

With as many people that have either lived or are currently living in Iowa, I think it's justifable to call them "Local". It's a short drive to KC, right? The only regional AFC team broadcast?

I haven't seen much. But it's a little disconcerting that so many people are adamant that he's "The Guy", yet there's little consensus amongst scouts, the national press, etc.

I'm more of a "Let's see how things shake out" guy than proclaiming him to be the "Savior", which dozens of people seem to be happy to proclaim.

Yet RGIII was a running QB unworthy of the draft choices given up.

What he does not have is Griffin's sheer freaky athleticism (or Griffin's pair of military parents, making him such a character goldmine, story-wise). So I would put him under RG3. But I do think he's a QB who could transition quickly to the pro game. And while he does not have Griffin's legs, he is very mobile in his own right. And I think he'd be in the discussion for the #1 pick in any recent draft aside from last year.
So he's a notch or two above Tannehill in terms of quarterbacking ability at this particular point, but not as athletic, in your opinion?

You know me, I'm not trying to put you on the spot nor am I aiming for a "Gotcha" moment.

If that's the case, I'd be more than happy to see him drafted.

And DJ's Left Nut suggested early on that their ****ing asshat of coach should be the Chiefs next Offensive Coordinator, to which I fully disagreed.

There are just too many ****ing homers here anymore and it's just too difficult to sort through them.
I think I saw him play 8 games this year. I saw at least that many again during his sophomore and junior seasons. I've seen a quite a bit of him. I was actually talking about him around the time of the draft last year.

He's not perfect, but I think some of his perceived problems have at least as much to do with the team he's on as they do with him. You can say a lot of the same things for WVU that people will say for Arkansas. Bad, bad o-line, not even a semblence of a defense so he's put under constant pressure to score. As many rushing yards as they got, they really didn't have any kind of legit threat at RB, at least not in my opinion (nobody on the team aside from Austin had a run over 30 yards the entire season). Bailey and Austin were tremendous receivers, so that obviously helped him, but I don't remember them ever really having a TE involved in the passing game this year, everything seemed to go through WRs and RBs, so he never really had a big TE safety net the way a lot of QBs do at least not that I remember. I think he was primarily throwing to guys in the 5'9-6' range, so obviously there's going to be a lot of short stuff.

And hey, they lost games. That's the killer. They lost games, and he gets the blame for that. Against K-State, I think he deserved it. Other games, I'm not so sure. They turn around a couple of 1-point losses where the defense gives the game up after he leads the team to late scores and we're talking about a QB on a 9-win team, and he probably looks a lot more like Griffin in the public eye.

But he can do everything you want. He's shown he can read the field, he's shown he can go through progressions, he's shown he can complete just about any throw you can think of, long, short and in-between, and he's shown he can do it with touch and with accuracy. He I think needs some work with footwork and mechanics, with consistency at times, but there just isn't anything that red-flags me. I think the odds are that he's going to be a good pro quarterback.

I didn't like Tannehill at all. I think he's more than a notch better than that. I think he's much more advanced as a passer.
