Why Manning ruled out KC...

Apparently, teams were pre-qualified by Manning prior to any visits. When Condon was contacted by the 12 teams, he told them that the contract Manning was starting at was 5 for 90 and going from there.

Teams either had to say in or out at that point.

From there, Manning narrowed his selections.

I was told this from someone yesterday, and then today on Twitter, a great guy to follow, Andrew Brandt commented on it as well. I was leery about what I was told, but this guy confirmed it.

The Chiefs never got past the pre-qualified stage.

Seattle did, but when Manning narrowed his choices, the roster had no appeal.

Just thought I'd post this since we had a lot of discussions about why the Chiefs never got a face to face.

I heard Jamie Dukes say this morning on NFLN that the contract is structured to be worth OVER $70M IN THE FIRST TWO YEARS.

Unreal.

That's crazy.

Makes me think. He is probably only going to play for two years anyway?

And the time he plays, he gets his 35 mil.

He had to do so for someone like Manning to make it look like it's all about winning a SB.

No QB has ever won a SB with two different teams. The odds of Manning taking the Broncos to a SB are astronomically against him. 36, coming off an injury on a new team. Pretty much a lock he won't make it.

But Elway can now trade Tebow, sit with Manning for two years while he drafts his OWN guy this draft and let's him watch.

This has nothing to do with winning games. It has everything to do with Elway asserting control.

The other reports that discuss his contract have the money spread out fairly evenly over the life of teh contract.

I would tend to believe those reports over Dukes.

The way I see it, with the Donks cap situation, they have essentially bought themselves a 2 year window.

But I just don't see the talent to get through that window in the next 2 years, and as they get into the third year, they'll have to make tuogh decisions as it relates to the cap.

Manning makes them a better team, but I just don't see a SB team there with him.

I agree with this. How do they compare to Manning's Colts teams? The defense is better, but in part I think they were playing above their skill level last year to rally around Tebow. And their offense isn't comparable at all to the Colts' offenses, and Manning only won one Super Bowl with them in 14 years or so.

Manning is technically a great quarterback, so he gives any team a chance to win in this day and age. But he'll need some significant luck to do it in Denver.

I'm not sure anyone can say that the defense is significantly better in denver then it was in Indy. With PM that Broncos defense will be on the field more often if he's still a TD machine.

Maybe our ground game with JC< PH and new right tackle will keep him off the field.

I'm also hopefull that either Berry, Houston or Hali will kill Manning early forcing the donks to switch to plan...................c?

The fact taht the Broncos ran the ball 50 times per game last eyar probably helped their defense out alot.

Reggie wayne has more talent in his pinky finger than all the Denver WRs have combined.

Addai was nothing great but compared to Knowshon, he looks like Jamaal Charles.

I don't think the talent around him in Denver is anywhere near what he had in Indy. Granted when it came to the end, that was an aging team that did not hit on many picks in the draft of late. Peyton Manning picked the biggest challenge to get to the Super Bowl. This is a team built to win with a running game.

I would have to go with the reports that say the contract is loaded with the first 2 years being like 70 million.

That five year contract is a joke. Nobody sees Manning playing until hes 41 years old with what his body has just been through. Im thinking 3 years, tops for Manning and thats if he makes it through this season which is still up in the air.

As far as why he chose Denver, I can see it. Manning was attached to Irsay at the hip since he was drafted, with Bill Polian being close second. Bowlen and Elway were as close as he was going to get to those types of relationships with the front office being replicated. Can you honestly see Peyton Manning being able to stomach being in the same room with Clark Hunt and Scott Pioli outside of a contract negotiation? Yeah, me neither.

The Chiefs ownership and executives have been a running joke for years. Its no surprise we couldnt land a guy like Manning. In the end, I do feel like the Chiefs are better off missing out on Manning though. 96 million for realisticly 2-3 years?

I think I would have to take the guys that we've signed + our upcoming draft over getting Manning. The Chiefs are shaping up to be one of the most balanced teams in the league now, getting great depth at key positions. We really are just a decent Quarterback away from being contenders.

If Manning doesnt hold up the entire season, the Donks are in real trouble.
