a question for corona drinkers!

I was just over at the chili beer thread and it made me think of this.I used to bartend at ceasars and had hundreds of people order coronas as many people do,but on occasion as we were sometimes busy on a weekend we would run out of limes.

the amount of people horrified by this was staggering."how can i drink a corona without a lime".

does anyone actually know why they put a lime in a bottle of corona?Im sure alot of people do but i was just kind of curios to see how many.Ive seen countless people put the lime in the neck of the bottle,push it in and then turn the bottle over(while placing their finger over the mouth of the bottle) and its always made me laugh.

ok how many know the true pairing of the corona and the lime?

most anyone whose gone to mexico to party surley know the answer.

I'll drink it on those really hot summer days and ALWAYS use lime. A Corona without lime is like ribs without sauce.

I have tried it both ways, and you are right the lime makes a huge difference

Flavor is why I put it in there. If there is any other hidden mystical reason like trying to kill the tasty Mexican water bacteria, I don't know about it.

You put a lime in there to disguise the skunky taste. Clear bottles skunk extremely easily.

I would rather drink horse piss than a Corona and Phil's right on the money. Clear bottles equal skunky taste and the lime helps cover that up. BTW Phil, I just brewed a Belgian Saison that should end up being roughly 8.5%. Talk about a panty peeler.

ok since no one wants to play my guessing game..

hes what the bartenders in cozumel and the corona rep here confirmed.

in mexico.there are alot of OUTSIDE cabanas,bars and bistros(as there are in many warm places)

but in the resorts there are twice as many.

mexico also has a problem with insects.for some strange reason(which we tried and its true)an open bottle of beer attracts what....

flies..

when the resorts in mexico started adopting this practice,to keep their guests happy.people who were visiting the mexico resorts would see the beer with the fruit in it and order it.

when corona was marketed here in the us the same people started buying it and thought they also needed the lime.

since no one was informed that the only reason the lime is in the mouth of the bottle is............

TO KEEP THE FLIES OUT!!!!!!!!!!

Corona is one of the biggest marketing hypes ever seen. It ranks right up there with Fosters.

When I was in Australia I made the mistake of ordering a Fosters. I almost got laughed out of the bar. That's just the crap they export. Everyone down there drinks Victoria bitters.

The Mexicans I know drink Pacifica or Tecate. They laugh their asses off when they see us drinking Corona.

And why would a red blooded 'Merican drink Corona anyway?! Give me an ice cold Coors or an MGD.
