Now it can be told: The second draft choice San Francisco will receive from the Smith deal will be K.C.'s second-rounder in 2014 if the Chiefs go 8-8 or better this season. It will be a third-rounder in 2014 if Kansas City is under .500 this season.

So: San Francisco will probably have first-, second- and four third-rounders next year. But if the Chiefs surprise, it'll more likely be a one, two twos and three threes. As we've seen, GM Trent Baalke is dangerous with extra picks in his hands. If Colin Kaepernick is very good, the Niners should be annual contenders for years with the picks laid out that way.

Trading away prime draft picks for older quarterbacks is what they do and it is getting old.

It's the same as with Carl Peterson and he was run out of town. Same as Scott Pioli and he was run out of town.

To answer O's fan's dishonest question, I'll reiterate, again:

I thought they should draft Geno. If not, I could see a legitimate argument for punting on the QB this year and manipulating the draft to stockpile as many assets as possible to move in on one in 2014. I've said as much, but people act like spending two seconds for Alex Smith was the only alternative, as though there weren't replacement level QBs out there for a paltry sum.

It's not about the fans to Dorsey, it's about the players. He knows he has a very good core group here and he wanted to be as successful as possible right out of the gate to cure the culture of losing that these guys have experience for their whole pro career.

The Chiefs can win the AFC West in 2013. In actuality, I'm pretty sure that they will. They are a better team than the Broncos and easily better than the Chargers or Raiders.

If this team starts putting together some wins and gets it's confidence going, they'll give a lot of teams a run for their money.

This statement is extremely ignorant for what Alex has done in the last few years. If you want to judge him as a 20 year old rookie several years ago, hey, no one can stop you. But he's been good the last few years... and if your team is remotely solid around him? He will continue to be good.
