Vegas - First timer

The wife and I will be checking into the Rio for 5 comped nights in a Samba suite starting Monday. Someone posted a guide to all the killer deals on food and gambling free play for 1st timers awhile back but I can't find it. Please help with any tips (but just the tip, I'm a virgin!) you have on how to get the most for the least in Vegas. Oh, and yes, we will be doing a couple of timeshare presentations.

Ah...I was going to ask how you got 5 comped nights is you've never been there before. 5 nights in is actually a pretty long stay in LV, good luck.

The killer deals on food and gambling pretty much dried up years ago. You'll have to venture downtown or some of the smaller joints for the best deals.

There's lots of info, but I've heard the Hash House is a really good place to eat...reasonable prices and good food. My wife and sister went there and loved it.

Yeah, be prepared to drop some cash. Everyone assumes food is cheap in Vegas. Basically the only cheap things about Vegas anymore are the flights and the hotel rooms.

Nah. The timeshare presentations are just to generate some extra gambling money. I'm a platinum card holder at Harrahs and the Rio is a Harrahs property.

This may sound stupid, but the biggest thing (IMO) for first timers (especially for a fairly long trip) is to set a daily budget for gambling and don't go over it no matter what. If your daily limit is $500 and you find yourself out of cash by 10am, find something else to do. If that means walking the strip, taking the bus downtown, or whatever stay away from the tables, slot machines, sports books, etc.....

Those fricking casinos didn't just jump up out of the sand and you aren't going to own a couple of them when you get back on the plane in a few days. I'm not insinuating that YOU would, but I've had a couple of friends go out there in the past and get way in over their heads. Gambling money is an entertainment expense, only play what you're prepared to lose.

One of the souvenir shops down by the Freemont sells beer by the bottle for $1. Don't remember the name though but there are just a few down there.

Also, lightshow.

That right...I forgot that Rio is part of Harrahs, which is all over the place. Hell, I think pretty much all the strip casinos are run by 3-4 companies.

Stay strong at the presentations...I know two people who said they would never actually sign anything, but they did. And they regretted it shortly after.

The reason I was laughing about going is because I sell timeshare. I can guarantee I'm not buying shit.
