Draft pick, Smith, Stanzi(?) as your QB's in camp.

They aren't going to trade for him to be a backup. However, why is a team giving him a new contract?

The only rationalization I can make is that is there are 3 people in place that can work with QBs.

That's light years better than anything we have had in quite some time, but he is at is ceiling and is 29.

I wouldn't commit to that.

They would be trading for him to be a stopgap...same as he was in SF.

Alex Smith is gonna be cut. 49ers are in cap hell and have a lot of free agents. Why would a team give up a pick for him when they know he's gonna get cut.

This makes absolutely no sense.

Any team that trades for him is viewing him as a stop gap. That's what he is. He didn't get a single offer longer than 3 years last offseason and he won't get that now either.

Any team that gets him is also only assuming he plays like Harbaugh is his coach. His stats BEFORE Harbaugh was his coach is a completly diferent and unimpressive Alex Smith.

Is anyone else surprised that the Chiefs have the first pick in the draft, and there are so many replies in an %#$*%^$*^%(^()* Alex Smith thread?

He has a $1 million dollar roster bonus on the 4th day of the new league year.

They'll either have a deal in place before then or cut him. I doubt they pay him $1 million dollars, only to have to cut him later.
