Are there any sugar resources in your territory that you can build a plantation on?

If not, you can trade for it with other civilizations, or have a city state give you some.

I am on a "Play Now" session (preloaded rules, nothing special) on Chieftain, 4 hours in to the game, and i'm in the Industrial era.

Yeah, I'm still in the Medieval Era, but I am a n00b (only played Civ Rev), so its probably going to take me longer.

Something I always wished for Civ was that the transitions to new ages would go slower. I have a lot of fun with the earlier parts of a game, but then it seems like in no time I am running around with tanks and battleships when I wish it was still muskets and guys with spears. Love the game, and I'm sure I'll love this one when I manage to get my hands on it, but I'm sure I'll see myself progressing through the ages and wish it would have been a little harder/more time consuming to do so.

I'm worried in my game right now because I have 1 unmet character, and he's already built like 4 or 5 wonders. I think you can win by building them all...not sure.

Why do you want the older games? If you're new to civilization, I'd just start with the current one.

Several here have given me the same, no doubt good, advice. Still, having never played any of them I would like to know how it used to be in order to fully get what it has grown into.
