Merrill: Chiefs give Kuharich promotion
http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansas...s/13835088.htm
Chiefs give Kuharich promotion By ELIZABETH MERRILL The Kansas City Star The football guy in Bill Kuharich saw bigger things and explored job possibilities in Minnesota and a handful of other NFL cities. The family guy in Kuharich wanted his three young daughters to stay in Kansas City. He can have both now. The Chiefs have promoted Kuharich to vice president of player personnel, adding to his duties as VP of pro personnel. When he came to Kansas City in 2000, some wondered whether Kuharich was overqualified. In New Orleans, he served as president, general manager and chief operating officer. Kuharich, who helped the Saints sign eventual 11-time Pro Bowl tackle Willie Roaf, Carolina Pro Bowl quarterback Jake Delhomme and running back Ricky Williams, will oversee the team’s college and pro scouting efforts. “It’s a good opportunity for me,” Kuharich said Thursday. “I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to work with a lot of good people in the NFL, excellent head coaches in Jim Mora, Mike Ditka, Gunther Cunningham, Dick Vermeil and Herman Edwards. “It’s never the same. Every draft is different. Every day is an opportunity to improve your team in all aspects.” Kuharich will take over the player personnel duties from Lynn Stiles, who will remain vice president of football operations. Stiles said the idea of taking a step back and assuming a smaller load had “been lingering in my mind for a period of time” because of personal reasons. “I’ll be a football guy till it’s time they put me in my grave,” Stiles said. “I’d do anything for Lamar (Hunt) and Carl (Peterson) and this organization. But in light of some personal decisions, I felt that the timing was right. “I felt that Bill could certainly pick up the slack and carry on and frankly do as good or better of a job in servicing the Kansas City Chiefs.” |

Oddly I don't know if I have thought as anyone in the Saints orginization as "over qualified" for anything in the NFL.

I think Kuharich is a good taleny evaluator. He's probably next in line to take over as GM, when Carl steps down. I'm glad because Stiles makes me nervous with some of his comments on player personell.

I don't know who's ultimately responsible for it, I'm just saying it doesn't exactly fit with the other two players aquisitions that are being used to boost his resume. |

i'll look at this as a good thing i guess.
player personnel has been our weakness point imo and any change to that is considered a positive. Whatever the current dynamic is for our personnel dept. .... maybe kuharich will change it or shake it up a bit. *cross fingers*

So what is the difference between "player personnel" and "pro personnel"?
It's hard for me to form an opinon on this considering I don't have the slightest clue what the difference is. |

This is one of those "be careful what you wish for" scenarios. We all hoped Styles would be replaced, but Kuharich (on paper) doesn't seem to be that great.
First off, he's with the Chiefs because the good ole boy network is alive and well - USFL baby!! "Kuharich inaugurated his football career with the USFL’s Stars in ‘83 under Peterson. In ‘86, Kuharich began his 14-year tenure with the Saints as the club’s Director of Player Personnel, serving in that role until ‘93. He was promoted to Vice President of Football Operations, working in that role from ‘94-95 before being named Executive Vice President/General Manager in ‘96. Kuharich was then elevated to the post of President/General Manager/Chief Operating Officer of the Saints in ‘97, a position he held through the ‘99 season." If you look at the Saints drafts from 86 - 99 is anyone really impressed? Is it even as good as KC's drafts?

EDWARDS: No, I have not.” (1-11-07) |
