Got spyware or virus

It automatically changes my homepage to vroomsearch .com, it also adds 6 files to my favorites, it pops up several different pop-ups, all of this inspite of my pop up blocker, spykiller, spybot, adaware and AVG! I did a malware search and it didnt come up as one of those and Im at my wits end trying to get rid of this crap...occasionally the pop ups are NOT for kids! Any ideas? I dont care if I have BUY whatever it takes to get this computer clean and safe for ANYONE in my house to use.

Try a system restore and cross your fingers.

then repeat after me, " I will never, ever, ever cruise the internet with the internet explorer edsel.

download firefox 1.0 and kick back.

Make a backup of your reg. Go to regedit and do a search for vroomsearch.com and delete every key it finds(probably a lot of them) then reset your start page. If it comes back later you probably have a trojan.startpage virus and you will need to clean it out.

Have you tried " hijack this " ?

It allows you to clean it out and recover the home page settings.

Scroll down 1/2 on left side, click download.

Download and run AdAware from http://www.lavasoft.com
Also download and run Spybot. Spybot
Keep both up to date as possible.
Don't go to the site you got this from anymore.

I guess you missed the part of my post when I said that I have tried Spybot and Adaware and they didnt work.

HEY ROYC...for some reason I cant download hijackthis from any site right now, I tried the link you posted as well as 3 others and it says I cant download from this site and that I may not have permission to access this site on this server, or something like that. BUT, I downloaded a trial of Winpatrol and so far Im very impressed. thanks for the info guys, I will check in and give an update.

I'll agree with the other poster who said restore your system. It sucks to have to do it but it's probably the easiest way to get rid of it. I keep a 2nd hard drive in my PC just for this purpose. Makes it easy to backup and transfer files. Good luck regardless.
