it's a good sale price if you ever order from Amazon to use $30 credit. I thought about doing a pre-order and then sticking it in a drawer until they fix the initial wave of issues.

I'm curious if your traditional touchpads on laptops work well with Windows 8.... Do you get similar functionality with the touchpads as you would if you weren't using a touch screen?

Windows 8 is supposed to be capatible with touchscreen devices and traditional desktops and laptops as well.

I'm wondering if you can use gestures (or whatever they are called) on a touchpad like you could on a touchscreen/tablet device.

I will be getting a touchscreen laptop with Win8 next year for sure. Best of both worlds (laptop/tablet)...

this problem is that the price is not going any lower, it will go back up after release and stay there unless you get a student type deal.

I have been using Windows 8 for a few months now - if you have Windows 7 on a laptop or desktop, don't bother.

Once you strip away the metro UI (which really isn't that cool) there is virtually no difference between 7 and 8.

I should also mention that while Windows 8 doesn't currently use the same software delivery architecture that XBox and mobile do, the potential is absolutely there. The CEO of Valve was concerned enough about it that he came out publicly against it.

If you are a gamer, I would at least think carefully before upgrading.

How's it do in virtualization? I wouldn't mind dropping it into my home lab, but I'm a little worried about system resources. My iMac is on its last legs waiting for the next upgrade and the current one is a little slim on RAM. Plenty for Win7 for my purposes and definitely XP, but I'm thinking this will require some additional horsepower.

The main difference I have been hearing is that Windows 8 is faster than 7.

Since I purchased my new laptop recently, I get Win8 for $15. Don't know if I will install it or not.

It's a little faster in startup and shutdown times. But not so much in general usage like opening apps, copying, and such. I don't really think it's enough to justify the upgrade at the moment.

The digital download is only $39, without having to use an Amazon promo credit. Why bother with a boxed copy?
