So... Joe Flacco is a UFA at the end of this season.

With none of the QBs coming out of college seeming to be a #1 overall lock... what say we back up the Brinks truck and try and bring Flacco to KC?

Enough of this bullshit. If it works out, then great! If not, then the team will naturally fall into the cellar. Then you try again.
Wait a minute man... When I asked you if you felt this way last april, you said you wouldn't have taken Weedan at #11.

Why would you take Jones at #1 but not take Weedan at #11?

This is why I am confused.

We spent one alright. A second on Matt Castle.

Great idea to build around a 30 year old QB whose primary athletic experience is ****ing baseball. Think the Royals will let us borrow Hochevar to put behind center when they're not using him?

We already tried Brandon Weeden. His name is Matt Cassel.

You know, in the Chiefs' defense, they did spend a first round pick on a quarterback in 2001 when we traded for Trent Green. I know that's not the same as drafting a guy, but at least they had the sack to use a first rounder on a QB in some capacity.

It's no wonder that we had our most successful offense when we did that.

I'd certainly consider it.

But I like Flacco more than a lot of guys. I still think he's one of the better downfield passers in the league and would be able to do incredible things with Charles, Bowe and Baldwin at his disposal.

He's taken some time to develop (as most QBs do), but he's a legitimate SB caliber QB at this point. I'm not sure there's much space between him and Roethlisberger. He's still only 28 so you'll have him for quite awhile still.

And it would free us up to take a guy in like Jones at #1 overall. You can't compare taking Jarvis Jones to taking Tyson Jackson. There are 3 positions in football worthy of the #1 overall pick, maybe 4 - QB, LT, Pass Rusher, WR.

Jarvis Jones would be an absolute difference maker on this team and is a justifiable #1 overall pick in a vacuum.

It's another scenario worth at least considering, IMO. If you get Flacco, Jones and then the first pick in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, you're talking about 4 new high-value starters at key positions with all other key positions already filled.

I know the popular opinion will remain to take a QB at #1 overall and it's certainly still my preferred route...but this one is worth contemplating as well. It forces you to continue scouting guys like Jarvis Jones or even Lotuleili.

That said - the Ravens won't lose him. They'll franchise him if necessary.

well stated. I think Jarvis Jones is another Derrick Thomas. He single-handedly beat Mizzou and Florida. Get both AND a QB to develop.
