Barbecue sauce

What do you guys use, homemade or store bought?

Here is the list from the web.

A lot of the store brands, like Bull's Eye, Open Pit, Sweet Bay, Kraft, in which the #1 ingredient is the high fructose corn syrup.

Anyone here makes his/her own in a not too messy way?

Yuck.
I’m pretty sure SC and NC are completely different. I THINK South Carolina uses a mostly mustard BBQ sauce. NC is straight pork, typically whole hog (chopped, not pulled). Its very regional – people argue over “eastern style” (which I think is more of a ketchup base) vs “Lexington style” (which I think is more of a vinegar base).

I have no problem with it. People like what they eat growing up. Believe it or not, NC people talk non-stop shit on KC style BBQ for how sweet it is. Its never fun hearing that people think the BBQ you love is wretched, but it clearly goes both ways.

Here in the East, I found a place that's carrying Rufus Teague's rubs. They've got "Meat rub" and "Spicy meat rub".

Since I don't want to try both and find out I'm not a fan of either, which should I start with?

I'd go with the regular meat rub. Not sure how spicy the other one can be. You don't want to ruin a good piece of meat.

Isn't it called Piedmont sauce? I've tried S. Carolina BBQ and didn't care for it, but the piedmont sauce with cole slaw is an awesome pulled pork sandwich. I think that's more NC.

Took the current Mrs. Donkhater there in college. Bevier is hole in the wall, but that place had the best surf and turf I've ever had.

Is that place still open?

I recently tried "Garland Jack's Secret Six" original recipe at Hy Vee, 99 cents a bottle as the manager special. Cooked short ribs with it yesterday in the slow cooker, good sauce at a great price.
