*.* 2013 General Fitness Thread *.*

Welcome to 2013! Now get your ass in top physical condition!

**From the 2012 Thread**

If you want to get back into lifting, or need a new lifting routine, START HERE:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wi...inner_Programs

If you have questions about the SS programs, look here:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ

Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started.

Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE:

http://madcow.hostzi.com/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm

If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point.

We were having a group discussion at work the other day about fitness and a couple chicks decided to chime in with some nuggets of wisdom.

One said you can spot-reduce fat and the other said its important to work out calves because they pump blood throughout your body.

Well, you can spot reduce fat via sub-cutaneous injection of GH, but I doubt she was talking about that.

So in that regard, .

Ok. Going balls in and trying to hit 405 bench by the end of the year. I've topped out at around 375-380 in the past. This time trying to hit about 5000 cals and push the BW up to 260lbs Currently around 230, been as high as 245. I figure I need to hit 315 for 8-9 to get it and I'm currently at 2 after half assing my diet and workouts over the summer. Also bumping up the TRT dosage a bit starting in Oct I'm just trying to ramp up the cals now so I can prepare for handling 5000 come Sept. My biggest concern is injuries since I had a torn RT cuff in the past. I'm going to feel and look miserable, but god dammit I'm moving that shit off my chest so I can cross that off my bucket list.

She definitely meant it in a natural kind of way.

But when I pressed her, she couldn't really give a clear answer on just how to do something that she would be a millionaire for actually knowing. She just said " it's very hard".

I'm up to 225. Trying to hit 240 by next summer. My god damn left shoulder has been killing me on flat and incline barbell bench, so I had to switch to dumbells. If I turn my wrists slightly in a bit, shoulder doesn't hurt at all. I doubled up on rotator work so hopefully it should help a bit. I'm liking the dumbells though, good thing my gym has 150's cause im at the 120's already

I was planning on doing a strength program for a few months before I worry too much about physique. I'd really like to strengthen my core.

I hear ya. Ultimately its going to boil down to how much time you have and want to spend in the gym. I've had buddies start out on a 3-day strength program, and guys who never picked up a weight start out with my old college football strength program, which was 5 days. I've also seen guys do bodybuilding splits and progress as much if not faster in bench, deadlift and squat, than someone doing SS or madcows 5x5.

I guess I'm just anti-SS since it has no accessory movements to assist the power movements, but it's all going to boil down to consistency with your workouts and in the kitchen.

My wife's friend comes to work out with us every once in awhile and brings one of those elastic waist bands that hides your gut. She swears up and down that working out with it reduces fat in the mid section.

My brain works the opposite way. I need to look good and see the changes in the mirror. It motivates me to do more, almost to the point where i obsess over it. Im in month 4 of a planned 11 month transformation. I'll be doing 6 months of general fitness 5x a week, followed by 2 months of intense cardio and then a 3 month clean "bulk phase" and then re-evaluate myself after that. I'm hoping to drop down to 10-12% BF before i bulk. I'm about 18% BF right now.

I don't wanna get fat when i bulk, as that will just discourage me. Planning on investing $$$ into some heavy weights and just eat at a 300-500 cal surplus.

This might sound stupid, but I want to have long rough sex without my abs getting destroyed. Sometimes it feels like I can't walk the day after.

Heh.

Kinda like my motivation. I tell my wife all the time that I'm working out to look good naked.

When i get up to go get a towel after a hot session i want her to look at me and think, "OMG look at that ****ing sexy man. I can't believe THAT just got done ****ing me".

Online max bench calculator thinks your current max would be about 330 (based on 2 reps at 315). What program are you going to use to add 75 pounds to your bench in the next 4 months? What specific routine gets that kind of result?
