What's your favorite wine?

For us wine drinkers, I'm curious about your favorite "drinking" wine (as in, something uner $15 a bottle).

I'm partial to the 2002 Hill of Gold Shiraz (Rosemont Estates) and the 2002 Coppola Premium Claret. Right now, I'm drinking a 2003 Coppola Zin.

I was very happy with how non-snobby the wine reps were at our festival. Another cool thing was that we had lots of local wineries present, so I got turned on to some good local wines. You Missourians should be driving over to the Missouri wine country on the weekends and "touring."

Rieslings are good. There are a couple of wineries in Hermann that make a really good sweet white.

Is the sign of a good red how dry it is? I generally feel thirsty after I drink a "good" red.

Dry does not necessarily equal good, but it often correlates. I just like really full-bodied (high tannin) wines that linger on the pallet. This is probably because I'm a whiskey/scotch drinker and I really like to know when I'm drinking something, especially if I shelled out some serious bucks for it.

I hate the feeling of having my breath taken away when I drink something.

That describes my tastes as well.

If anyone lives near a Trader Joe's (none in KC yet), they have a TJ label cabernet reserve for $9.99 that is easily comparable to most $25-30 cabs. Great wine, and great deal.

Yeah, I never took to the whiskey/scotch. Just a beer guy, with some Patron thrown in for good measure. I do like to drink Heineken, just to look all high brow.

Your might like beaujolais, then, if you want to play with reds.
