Chiefs Redoing the 1989 Draft

I have read on here more than once that the hiring of Reid and Dorsey is akin to the hirings of Carl and Marty. Hypothetically, let us say that the new regime has the No. 1 pick of the 1989 draft. Who do you take? I am curious to see the results. I want to see who truly appreciates and understands the value of the QB position.

All five poll options were taken in the Top Five.

Heres a draft that might stir better discussion. 1992.

Colts had top 2 picks and took a DE and Linebacker. Emtman and Coryatt. The best available QB that year was Klingler.

What would you have done if you held the #1 in 1992?

Honestly, I would take a risk and draft Tommy Maddox. The position is too damn important.

Well, maybe.....but nobody ever says Aikman was one of the "Greatest of all Times" He was a top talent relative to his era.

Although I love DT, I truly believe the early 90's Chiefs would have won at least one Super Bowl with Aikman at the helm. DT was a great player, no one is arguing that. However, the fact remains that the Chiefs only won three playoff games (two came in the same season) during DT's career. Competent QB would have netted at least one Lombardi Trophy, Martyball be damned.

Only one vote for Mandarich. Interesting, considering I was under the assumption that the left tackle is the safest position in the draft.

Well, he was absolutely awful.

If it had been Willie Roaf or Jon Ogden or Anthony Munoz, the answers might have been different.

Keep in mind, four out of the top five picks are Hall of Famers. Mandarich was the only one that was just an average player. Blame that on Madden.

At that time with those choices I would have said Sanders. 200 yard games for him were like 100 games for everyone else. His 200 was 300.
But today I would say Aikman.
