It's time we ban pitbulls

Enough is enough. These dogs are way too strong & unpredictable. Plus, they are normally owned by the wrong people. Deadly combo right there.

This latest pitbull attack is absolutely heartbreaking.

A 14-month-old Wisconsin boy has died after a brutal attack by a pair of pit bulls, authorities said on Thursday.
Police received a call from Susan Iwicki, 30, on Wednesday saying that she and the young boy were being attacked by the dogs, according to local NBC affiliate WMTV. Iwicki told police that she and the boy had each sustained injuries.

The boy died of his injuries at a Milwaukee area hospital later on Wednesday, the Walworth County sheriff’s office said, according to The Associated Press.
The boy had the “biggest eyes, great smile,” family friend Valerie Brylow told local affiliate WTMJ. “He was a great little boy.”
“He is adorable, absolutely adorable,” Nicole Jennison, another family friend told the station.
The boy’s name has not been released, and an investigation continues. Both of the pit bulls were removed from the property and euthanized on Wednesday, WMTV reported.
The fatal dog attack was the first in Wisconsin in a decade, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Just as long as you understand that what I am telling you isn't based on media hype, but experience. If the community at-large decides to ban a breed from it's borders, I don't have a problem with it. I also don't have a problem with you or anyone else owning one. But in regards to me, you will be held responsible by me for the actions of your dog. Pitbulls have dangerous abilities and the owner must be responsible.

I don't want to spark this back up, but let me ask you one thing. One pitbull that you say is trained to fight, attacks you. So this makes you experienced how? Because some reerun has an aggressive dog? You can't be seriously taking one sample out of a hundred thousand and try to formulate a sound hypothesis and expect it to be taken seriously. You cant just put that junk up on my refrigerator and expect me to commend you on your artwork, this isn't third grade, nor am I your parents. Also pitbulls aren't trained to fight, they are either game or they are not.

It really is unfortunate, but I'll admit that I'm more wary around pitbulls than other breeds. It's just common sense at this point in time, just like it was wise to be wary around Dobes in the 1970s when they were the dog du jour of the idiots.

That, I can completely understand. I am wary of all different types of breeds when they are on the leash of people I don't know. I have been biten by a lot of different dogs. I am typically more wary when someone cannot control their dog whether big or small.

Avoiding cars and football and going outside isn't a reasonable sacrifice in my world. Avoiding one particular breed of dog is a perfectly reasonable and acceptable sacrifice.

I don't need to support some ridiculous notion of dog breed equality by casting aside common sense in determing the necessary risks in life.

BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. - One family said a pit bull they had fostered for less than a week came to the rescue of their 4-year-old son and saved him from a life-threatening health scare.

Christi Smith, of Brooklyn Park, Minn., said things seemed normal when she put her son, Peyton Anderson, to bed Oct. 2.

Smith said when Peyton woke up hours later to get a glass of water, TaterTot, the 10-month-old pit bull began acting weird.

"TaterTot was whining and barking," Smith, 28, told Goodmorningamerica.com . "I didn't think anything of it and just tried to get everyone to go back to bed."

Later that same night, Smith woke up again when TaterTot was running between Smith and Peyton’s bedrooms and barking.

"I got up and went to check on my son and TaterTot was on the bed, trying to shake his bed, wake him up and lick his face," Smith said. "At that point my son was barely breathing."

Smith took Peyton to the emergency room and he was diagnosed with low blood sugar.

Although doctors say Peyton is not diabetic, they aren’t sure what caused his blood sugar to drop so low. Doctors told Smith that the dog likely detected Peyton’s ketones, a sign the body is burning fat for energy instead of using glucose, ABC News reported.

"A lot of people are saying it could be because he was producing ketones and that TaterTot picked up on it and that's why he started acting funny," Smith said. "He could sense something was wrong."

Smith had initially agreed only to foster TaterTot after he spent more than a month in and out of foster homes. Now, TaterTot is a permanent member of their family.

"Pit bulls just have a bad reputation, but they're actually great family dogs. They're really friendly,” Smith said. "TaterTot and Peyton pretty much have been inseparable since the day that we got him."

Maybe TaterTot went to eat the kid, realized he tasted funny and then went to the owners to demand a proper meal.
