I don't get why they haven't moved to play some zone after getting torched so much, especially in the red zone.

Then you started agreeing Smith played well enough to win while arguing the costliness of the drops.

Who is arguing what here exactly?
Smith played well. He didn't play great. The drops hurt. They were not fatal, nor was the performance of the WR's as bad as this ridiculously hyperbolic thread claimed, and the "what about his drops yardage" excuse is straight from the Cassel playbook.

You want to lay blame at the feet of a single entity because it's easier to get your head around. Here's the truth: like most things, it's complicated. The defense is not very good at all. It's just not. People saw the pass rush get hot for a few weeks and thought that we had the best rush since the '90 Eagles. The truth is that the corners are subpar, the FS is terrible and the pass rush is extremely limited. Couple that with a QB who is good, but not great, a subpar OL, a coach who can't manage the game, and deficient WR's and you have what you have: a team that was the beneficiary of an incredibly weak schedule who is starting to get exposed. And it's not getting exposed by great teams, either.

The Chiefs were a 2-14 team last year that would have been a 6-10 team with mediocre coaching. This year they're an 11-5 team whose real talent is closer to .500. In 2011 they were a 7-9 team whose Pythagorean record was 4-12. They were lucky early. They aren't playing backup QBs anymore, and the offense still has a lot of warts.

Because Sutton is either too stubborn or has zero ability to adjust his defensive strategy during the game.

this, x1000

their ****ing job is to catch the ball.

Denver is on a record-setting pace - Manning has more pass yard than anyone ever through 12 games; they light EVERYONE up. It's what they do. You have to outscore them. It's the same thing as two weeks ago; when you have 1st and goal inside the 5, you gotta score 7...when you are down 2 scores and have 4th and 2 around the 40 or 50, you gotta go for it (dungver WILL move ghe ball, remember?? 39 yards is the same as 89 yards to them; it's the POSSESSIONS you have to limit - DO NOT GIVE HIM THE BALL WITHOUT SCORING)....when they are gouging you deep , you totally have to start rotating your coverages, as opposed to letting the same 3 guys get hung out in Man Under play after play - we don't have the backside contain from whoever is playing S opposite Berry to do that, and good teams will torch you.

All this is on...the coaches. We could win...but the coaching staff doesn't make good adjustments, is too stubborn. Both on offense AND defense.

that being said, if Houston and Devito can come back and restore the D to something resembling the unit that was not letting teams run OR pass at all...then we could very well be playing the best football of our season here in a couple weeks.

If it were that easy to catch everything and drop nothing perhaps the best people in the world at it would actually do it.

you aren't giving me anything new dude. I haven't claimed this team is elite and have pointed out the exact same warts you just did several times.

Basically you are back tracking and then bashing someone who has been saying most of the same things you just did and calling them dumb.

The defense isn't bad its just not elite. I get that. You want to go to just a horrible team rather than the reality which is in the middle ground.

Being a "professor" you should know the difference.

Just like how you railed Stl wouldn't do anything the entire season then in the end when they lost the WS said I told you so.

You weren't right then, why are you right now?

If you truly believe this then I suppose you won't see my reply as there is no reason for you to be on NFL message boards, wasting your time. Did the NFL rig it so the freaking Ravens would be SB champs last year? That can't be though because the NFL favors PM though?... Right?
