You can talk to me all you want about flash and open source apps, but the fact that the iPad is just an overall stress-free, pleasant user experience counts for a lot.

Nobody can say Apple doesn't have its flaws, but they put high quality products out into the marketplace. Why do you think laptops with double or triple the hardware capabilities cost several hundred dollars? Because hardware isn't everything; Apple gets more out of its resources than every other manufacturer out there, and it is obvious to anyone who ever uses an Apple product made after 2006.
Have you played with a Xoom yet? Since it's the only ACTUAL Android tablet on the market, I would reserve judgement until you do.

I don't like its price, but it has a much superior OS and is better hardware.

The other tablets you played with have a phone OS on them ... now that Honeycomb is out there, you'll see the big manufacturers like Dell get involved.

Right now you have 2 BAD choices... a semi-functional device that is slightly overpriced. OR, a fully functional (in a few weeks) device that is way overpriced.

This summer will be the real shift...

Hell, I am typing this on a tablet that predates the iPad.

Most are going with stock honeycomb because for some reason there was this mad rush to the tablet market. Everyone wanted a honeycomb tablet out immediately, so they're taking what Google gave them. I don't believe for a second they were all wowed by the genius of Duarte. It was just new, and they didn't have the time to figure out what to do with it.

But maybe they'll surprise me. Like you said, right now there's only the Xoom. So let's see the market mature before I make assumptions.
Sorry, but this is simply false. The bloatware will be loaded just like it is on PCs by Dell, HP etc... but the heavy customizations to the OS were only there because the default OS was simply unusable until now.

Apple has one device, Android has dozens. It stands to reason that a single device can't have control of such a vast market as smartphones. Not when business is almost exclusively done on Blackberry, anyway. I'm sure Android isn't going to have nearly the impact on the corporate sector Google hopes it will.

Yes iPhones are more expensive, but you get the added bonus of owning a device that feels like an actual grown-up made it; during my limited experience with the Samsung Galaxy Captivate, all I could think was that a very gifted pre-schooler made a nicely-shaped bit of plastic.

I'm getting an iPad 2 when it drops in Canada in about three weeks, and as far as I'm concerned, it'll reduce my Macbook's responsibilities to downloading torrents, video editing and some light word-processing. Nearly everything I would want to do on a regular computer I can do on an iPad. I trust the company that makes it, as every single product I've ever purchased from them has run flawlessly.

So while Android may have some better technical specs, or access to a bajillion other useless apps (Just like the iPhone, to be fair) Apple has demonstrated that their devices just WORK. And they do that for a very long time. So they will get my money.

In case anyone wonders why many people get irritated at Apple fanboys, here's a good example. These are all pretty ridiculous statements.

I'll acknowledge, however, that Austin's being an equivalent anti-fanboy in this thread as well.

I really like Android. I have never used an iPhone, so I will never say Android is better. If Apple products werent so ridiculously overpriced, I would likely own some. Phury's pretentious behavior with this is quite amusing.

Definitely agree. I really don't have an issue with Apple's products at all, though I personally prefer Android. The pretentiousness is what I find annoying.

I probably am... Mainly because every Apple device I've ever owned has worked perfectly.

Devices that haven't worked perfectly:

IBM Desktop computer
HP laptop
Acer laptop
LG Rumor cell

I may be a fanboy, in fact, of course I am. But it's the result of Apple's products doing their jobs every time I need them, and the list above shitting itself every six months needing a new screen, motherboard, or hard drive.

I can see that, totally. Apple (and many of its users) do tend to have a "holier than thou" attitude toward many things.

I really dislike the Apple hatred just for the sake of hating Apple on the other side. Many people on the other side like to pretend that Apple can do nothing right except for marketing. They also tend to have a "only stupid people would ever buy Apple products" kind of attitude, when it's obvious that while Apple doesn't do EVERYTHING right, they do a lot of innovation and get a lot more right than they get wrong.

We must have purchased the same Sansa. I got one also but it was open box and reduced to 24.99. Well, I negotiated a little with a guy at Sam's.

Kyle, if you can't at least acknowledge that the smartphone market is an entirely different beast, with established brands and myriad other consideration (e.g., carriers, recurring cost), then I don't know what to say. Continue on as marshall of your anti-Apple parade.

And, for the record, a market implies there's some sort of critical mass of sales and demand for a product.

I'm not anti-apple at all, I am anti-iPad.

The smartphone market is different but the same REASONS that iPhone is losing market share there will apply with tablets... more choice, cheaper hardware.
