Even after his last two seasons, would you still trade Alex Smith for Phillip Rivers?

A buddy of mine and I at work were discussing this today. He says no way but I'd do it in a heartbeat. I cant stand the douche and he has been pretty bad lately but I still think Rivers has more potential to get us a playoff win than Alexis. And yes, Im that beat down as a Chiefs fan...all I want is one playoff win.

No, dude hasn't shown he's ascending, and doesn't face turmoil well- constantly bickering with teammates and opposing players & is just as much a source of fault as the rest of his team, but inspires no leadership and decides instead to pout. Alex may not be "the" guy, but I'll pass on River's lack of production that comes with his piss poor attitude.

Eli, Brees, Flacco, and Rodgers have all won Super Bowls recently with O-lines that were at best subpar.

He's certainly NEVER dealt with the conditions Rivers did last year. 31st in YPC? 49 sacks? Come on.

I feel like sometimes, we forget just how bad Rogers OL was/is. Now, it isn't Chicago but you cant help but watch and cringe sometimes.

As opposed to bears games where all you do is cringe watching the OL play.

You can add Roethlisberger to the bad o-line list too. They were awful the year they beat the cards in the superbowl, and were bad for years after.

I don't believe that San Diego's line has been as bad as advertised.

Rivers lost his best receiver, his running back has been garbage and Antonio Gates play completely dropped off in 2012. The Chargers have had just an average wide receiving corp since Jackson's departure.

Personally, I think it has to do more with the fact that Rivers is declining, the players tuned out Norv and the personnel decisions have been poor.

Then it's apparent you don't even watch Chargers games.

That team was trotting out Jared Gaither at LT.

The guy has taken a beating over the years as well. He hasn't played all 16 games of the regular season since 2008.

A smaller man would have crumbled.

The dreaded shitnado.

There are some nice pieces on that roster. The pieces they've let walk the past 4 years though is baffling.

In 2011, David Diehl by himself gave up nine sacks, eight hits, and 48 hurries, while the rest of the line was truly terrible, and Eli still won the Super Bowl.

It's interesting to think that, possibly, the Spanos family made a mistake by retaining Smith and firing Schottenheimer.
