Says the guy from Kansas! LOL, you have no clue racing noob! Remember, this NASCAR thing is new to the Midwest, for those us us who are old and from the mid Atlantic states, you might say we've been a little closer to the sport through the years than most folks in Kansas.

But go ahead, tell us all about who you've build motors for and how many races you've been to...

And yeah, Clint sucks, no matter how much you like him...

You're entitled to your opinion, but factually you're talking out of your ass. Go back over the past five years and tell me which one of those drivers has finished higher in the standings and maybe tell me which one has more wins over that span as well.

I haven't lived in Kansas for my entire life, the military decided I would spend a good part of my time elsewhere but since you asked I've been to Talladega four times, Bristol twice, Darlington, Atlanta, Richmond, Texas, and Kansas for Cup races.
I don't build jack shit for cars but I did race for one season (1991) at the Talladega short track (not very well though, honestly). If you're curious, the short track is about a 1/2 mile east of the superspeedway, but on the north side of the road.

Clint was the bitch in that set of events. Jeff Gordon is a known driver, Clint is number 3 at MWR.

Wow, that's cool... And my "days" were at Martinsville (think Ricky Rudd!! Told you I was old!), so i have a lot of love for Martinsville, but I'm still a bigger fan of road courses. I still think they show, pound-for-pound which drivers can drive better than the others. As much as I'll watch the "super" speedway races, I think they could be shortened to 15-20 laps and, unfortunately, you'd see about all the real racing you're going to see. So we all have our favorites, and that's cool.

As for gear, I never did much beyond my own failed attempts on a 75 Dodge Dart Sport... However, the Ricky Rudd connection is through my brother-in-law. I learned a LOT from him as he was part of Ricky's engine team. As you might recall, Ricky was one of the first to move out of the NC in terms of a team's HQ. Albeit Chesapeake, VA is really far form NC - it's on the border (!!!) - it distance from Charlotte was notable. Well, the bottom line was I didn't learn enough, but I prefer to blame the parts my wallet limited me to!

Later, and a few dollars better, I bought and ran a 87 Porche 944 Turbo on local road course races. And that was FUN!!! But alas, I knew I wasn't "the man for the job" (behind the wheel) as my best time was bettered by my brother-in-law, by two seconds, after just two laps. So it's all good, it was fun just the same. What he could do in a Honda CVCC (in that class) was amazing, what he could do in a 944 was even more impressive...

Anyway, have a good day, and let's hope for an awesome race...

Martinsville is the one on the top of my NASCAR "gotta get there someday" list followed by Dover and Daytona, but am more intent on the NFL bucket list right now. Other than Kansas, I haven't attended a live race in a three years (this will in all likelihood make four).

Also, I should point out as a disclaimer, I didn't own the car I got to drive at the short track and didn't do ANY wrench turning...."mechanicing" isn't my gig. I happened to live across from a guy when I was stationed there that had a open wheel car, he had a heart attack about a month before the season started, and his wife forbade him from driving....we got to talking and he gave me a shot (he didn't have many other options other than to park it and apparently it was his real passion so parking was not an option). I ran roughly 25 races for him that season. I only won twice and didn't finish in the top 10 in the season standings. For some reason he found another driver for '92.

Cool.. I don't care how you get behind the wheel, as long as you get there. As for wrenching, evidently there's a delta between my wrenching skills, driving skills and wins! I blame global warming, assault weapons, and only having two metric crescent wrenches! And maybe bias ply tires too!
