******* douchebags get free post-secondary education to travel the nation and play sports. Eat a bag of dicks and be thankful for what you've been given.

So does Women's Field Hockey get paid the same as Men's Football? What's Golf pay? So can a kid get out of HS hang out at the gym for a few years and then get paid to play college football? There's a lot to think about when it comes to paying college athletes.

If you pay them then don't give them a scholarship, it's one or the other, not both.

Does women's field hockey rake in the multi-billion dollar TV contracts?

I find it real hard to believe that the average scholarship is only worth $23k. If you are including every po-dunk community college scholarship than sure, maybe. But are you telling me a scholarship to Duke University to play basketball is only worth $23k a year? No way.

How is compensation going to be set? A football player at Stanford has a way different standard of living than one at Arkansas State. |

Even so, I think the system is fine as it is now. EXCEPT the player should own their likeness and be able to do endorsements and other things to generate revenue. Free market will determine which athletes make more than others, just like oh I dunno.. real life. Think of it like this. Say you go to a prestigious music school, your 19 years old, you get a full ride scholarship. If you make music, do performances etc outside of school, you can get paid. You OWN the rights to things you create, things you do, and yes, you can even endorse things! College athletes should have that right. |

At what point do we start paying our kids to play sports/games? There could be a case made that HS Football Players in Texas should get paid. They draw huge crowds don't they? I don't really have a side but I think it could be a Pandora's Box.

I believe they're advocating a free market. So compensation is whatever you can get. It will just make the gulf between the haves and the have nots even greater. Think free agency in MLB.

If you do that then you might as well divide the schools up into leagues by wealth. Even then it will eventually feed upon itself and will need a salary cap of some sort, just like every other free market league. all the financial parity issues that exist in pro leagues will suddenly exist in college. Mix all those issues along with education and recruiting etc and the entire thing will implode.
