A Browns fan is staying at the house

The wife has a friend from work that is staying with us a few days. Wife tells me not to talk about politics becasue friend doesnt know much about it.

My candid and tried answer is "Fine, how bout them Chiefs?" To which the friend answered that she was a die-hard Browns fan. My chin hit the floor.

#1 they exist...I thought they were like unicorns, big foot or Nessy.
#2 I'm talking to one.
#3 In my house with witnesses.
#4 I thought I had it bad.
#5 I guess I should appreciate being a Chiefs fan.

She lamented and I shared her pain. The discusion didn't last very long. What do you talk about, which team is crappier? I did ask when is the correct time to start wearing bags on our heads.

So, admittedly, I don't know much about the Browns and their history. When was their last playoff win? Have they won a Superbowl? Who are some of their better players in history? In the last 10 years, has their suckage been as bad as ours?

Help educate me so I can be more informed and have a better conversation tonight.

BTW, my wife was correct as to the politics stuff. She doesnt know crap. She's a HUGE Obama fan

Browns fan's are all over Ohio. Most live in cardboard boxes but some actually have homes. One of my Browns friends actually told me after the win over the Saints that we were lucky to have a QB like Matt Cassel.

Browns and Chiefs fans have a lot in common...

Marty.
Romeo.
Diehard fans of both equally hate Elway.

Chiefs last playoff win was 1993. 3-10 in Playoffs since 1990. Last trip 2010.
Browns last playoff win was 1994. 1-2 in Playoffs since 1990. Last trip was 2002.

Brady Quinn.

Blue Collar towns with amazingly strong fan bases in spite of ownership screwing with them the last few decades.

I work with a Browns fan. He's pretty quiet on Monday mornings and hates Elway with a passion. We seem to have a lot in common.

I hear ya, but I really didn't go overboard there... there are a lot of similarities. Many recall both being strong early on in the NFL... then there was a string of success in the late 80s for CLE and then in the 90s for KC.

The paths since 1993/1994 have been different - yet somewhat similar in a few areas. I think the fanbases actually have more in common than most other combos.

The phrase "if you like grandma" without the use of the word "the" or a capital "G" makes it read like you're talking about food...

True dat...just not from me.

Cut and pasted some of the responses into one doc. Hope we don't both cry.

This will be fun...she seems like a nice lady. I'll bring these opinions out, the go down and show her the Sean Hannity video of Bery '07 speech to preachers. Then show her the viral "1 sentence" opener from the lady that's running for senate in Ill.

Much fun.

Thanks for your help.

This brings up a good question. Would you rather be the Chiefs not drafting a QB early in years, or the Browns striking out 3 times so far?

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

The only way to win in the NFL is have a good qb + find a few great football players from the good football player pile.

This is where the quality GM comes in and this is where I am hoping Reggie learned that skill as a member of the Packers management

Time will tell
