Who's had their Gallbladder removed?

I go see the surgeon tomorrow. It runs in the family. Good/bad I want to hear it all. I spent about 3 hours of testing last night to come up with this diagnosis.

If it's bad, you really don't want to live with it. It gets really uncomfortable and if you have a full blown attack and have to go in for emergency surgery instead of the just scheduled outpatient surgery, you are really going to regret it, it's not that big of a deal. Three little incisions, maybe a week recover if you have a physical job, less if you sit at work. You will feel much better. Good luck.

was sore for 3/4 days ... nothing major.

had to avoid fatty foods for a month or so (no pizza etc) but after that it stabilized and i hardly notice.

Went to the emergency room the night before, got it out in the morning, came home the next day.

Is this the new fad illness? I've heard of more gall bladder problems in the last 3 months than the rest of my life.

I had emergency surgery last January to remove my gall bladder. Prior to that I had no symptoms to indicate that anything was wrong. As I was driving to work one day I suddenly had an intense pain in my stomach. I got to work and decided to turn around and go home. By the time I had driven two blocks the pain got so bad that I decided to head to the emergency room instead. By the time I parked the car and walked inside, I was in so much pain and distress that I thought I was going to die.

They put me in a wheelchair, gave me morphine, ran some tests, and told me that my gall bladder was gangrenous and that they were going to have to remove it immediately.

Worst day of my life.

The surgery itself was pretty minor with a quick recovery time. Some doctors tell you to change your diet. My doctor said it wasn't necessary. However, if I eat greasy food I have the same experience that others have described.

Again, you're lucky the doctor found it before it shut down completely.
I was having all kinds of health issues for the month leading up to when my Dr. finally decided to check for gall bladder issues. That was 3 weeks before a scheduled (and paid for) Disney vacation. My Dr. said we could put it off until I got back. But he warned that if pain like yours came up head to the hospital. The last day of the 10 day vacation I started feeling really horrible. But we made the drive back from Orlando to South Carolina on that Sunday.

I went in for a scheduled check up the next day and was told to show up at the hospital early the next day. I had pains all that night, but lasted till I showed up at the hospital that morning. After surgery they told me that had I waited any longer it would have burst and then all hell would have broken loose. If that happens you end up having to wear a tube to drain the infection for about a week.

I felt better than I had in 10 years the minute I woke up from surgery.

I couldn't take pain pills so it was a little slower than I thought getting back to full speed, but it was better than feeling like I had a fence post shoved through me a few times a year.

Good luck. It's no big deal.

I had mine taken out as an emergency procedure about a year and a half ago. My story is similar to others....I was feeling fine late at night but within an hour and a half I went from thinking I had food poisoning to being on the floor in pain. By the time I reached the hospital I thought I was dying.

Long story short, mine was about to rupture. When they removed it they discovered a gang-green infection in the gall bladder that had spread to my stomach and lungs. Therefore, my recovery also involved ridding my body of any remnants of the infection. It took many months to recover and I was back in the hospital for additional tests that revealed ulcers in my stomach as well. Idk if the infection contributed to that condition or not.

The biggest change is what others have mentioned. Greasy foods can cause serious problems. Also, for me GARLIC is like the kiss of shit death. I coined the term "emergency" to refer to having to go to the bathroom to my daughter so she understands when I am having problems and need to find a restroom immediately.

Make no mistake about it, when you eat the wrong food you will have to go to the bathroom "right then!" Not in 10 min, you won't be able to hold it for 5 min, you have to go RIGHT NOW!

My father had his removed about a decade or so ago.

He was back at work running a bulldozer in less than 15 hours from being released. He claimed he hadn't felt as good as he did the day after the surgery for several years.

We never get anything done, he shits all the time. I'm a little pissed to hear its a legitimate side effect because I cuss him every time he leaves me hanging on a job to go take a dump.
