Explanations
Run defense- straight run means all out play for the run, neutral means expect the run but be able to defense the pass Key on runner- keying on a runner will cut down that runners success unless that runner is on a counter. keying on the wrong runner will hurt the d. no key does not help or hurt the runner. Alignment- tight cuts down on dives, draws and traps while spread cuts down on sweeps and slants. guessing wrong will help the offense. head up does not help nor hinder the runner. Persuit- quick will cut down on non counter plays while slow contains the counter. running a counter against quick persuit helps the runner while a non counter against slow persuit helps the runner. Medium gives no advantage. Receiver cover type- tight coverage will lead to more incompletions and interceptions, but it can also result in big plays given up. loose coverage allows more completions and less interceptions but does not give up the big play. medium gives no particular advanatage. Double teams- double teaming one receiver shut down that receiver but leaves the other receivers in single or sometimes no coverage. QB runs- in this game QB runs can be a disaster for even Randall Cunningham types. they will have more success when forced out of the pocket on a pass play. the game does not program that eventuality very often so the QB is very underutilized as a runner. Pass length- it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the deeper the pass, the less chance it will be caught. but sometimes the payoff can be worth it. QB dropback type- play action helps against defenses looking for the run. rollouts help avoid heavy rushes but cut down on QB efficiency. Pass pattern type- one move patterns are hindered by tight coverage but result in better timing with the QB. three move patterns are timing patterns that are difficult to complete but can result in big gains unless countered by loose coverage.
