A Question of Records

Someone here mentioned a fact that continues to captivate me.

When Randy Moss got traded, his first team (Patriots) had not yet had their bye week, so he played four weeks for them. Then he reported to the Vikings, who had already had their bye week, so they had 13 games left.

This would mean that, if the buffet line food had been good, he could have played in 17 regular season games this year.

So what happens in a situation where a top-line player gets in this situation and sets a single-season record in the final game of the year? If he's a running back and gets 2,110 yards or a receiver who sets the record for receptions, or a linebacker who gets 23 sacks, does it count as normal? Should he get an asterisk? It's not his fault that he ended up playing in 17 games, and if he had ended up in the opposite situation and fallen five yards short because he only got 15 games in, I doubt that people would be calling for him to be named the record holder.

So what do you do in that situation if you're Roger Goodell's green-visored recordkeeper?

Poll coming.unless I get traded to another board in the next five minutes.
