Food and Drink Grand Cayman - Page 2

The Mrs. and I are heading to Grand Cayman Island this summer for our 25th anniversary. Looking for any suggestions on things to do. We already know we want to go to Stingray City and do some snorkeling but if anybody else has been and have any suggestions, bring them on. We are staying at the Ritz Carlton on 7 mile beach which puts us on the west side of the Island pretty much right in the middle between North and South.

"Barefoot Man" used to perform at the old Holiday Inn (since torn down). You might find if he is going to be on island when you are there. barefootman.com

Know that if you rent a car you insurance will not cover you there since you drive on opposite sides of the road. You will need to purchase additional coverage if you want to drive and be covered.

Just listened to some of the Barefoot Man's tunes. Caribbean style with the steel drums and all but such a sense of humor. Looks like he plays on Saturday nights at a resort near where we are staying. Will have to check him out.

Yea we had rum cake and went to some touristy themed restaurant that was too much money but OK food.

I don't know what he does for private tours, but as part of a cruise excursion, he proclaimed "Do you all know what free for all means?" And there were about 25 bottles on the bar and enough shot glasses for everyone to sample each one.

Needless to say we were pretty snookered when we left.

We went in October, 2001. Poor timing on our part.

We joined 6 other couples and rented a condo just south of Rum Point. Come to find out, the condo owner was from Overland Park, KS. Small world.

Our host owned the next condo over and had a boat, so some when snorkeling and others scuba dove the wall of the reef. Being on the "local" side, was a true pleasure as their was little to no traffic and we took advantage of the local bars. It was a nice lazy 10 days.
