Is this the low point in KU athletic history?

I honestly have no idea. At this point, he could be talking to Marty Schottenheimer & Norv Turner about coaching KU.

A big name coach from Texas would make a lot of sense. I feel like Malzhan is the most likely pick, but something about Zenger makes me think he wants to make a splash.

This likely is the biggest decision that he'll make while at KU - it's huge for him and definitely huge for the KU football program. Hopefully he makes a good decision - the only thing I'd really not like is if he made a choice that is similar to what Gill was before he got to KU.

He had to get the boosters to pony up for Gill's buyout. There were a lot of rumors that boosters had pledged a lot of dough for Leach specifically. I wouldn't be surprised if the boosters are attaching strings to that money, and those strings would likely require a big name. I base this last part on nothing other than my gut.

There have been message board rumors saying pretty much the same thing - but I've taken them much like I've been taking Tait's blog - with a grain of salt.

Hopefully they come through with a good coach. Obviously we aren't going to get the top guys, but someone that has the potential to grow into a coach the likes of Texas/LSU/Alabama would want to steal away would be nice.

And I'm not really asking for much from whoever our new coach is....we just need a coach that constantly brings in 5* blue chip kids, has KU ranked in the top 5 every year after his second year (I'll give him a year to bring in "his" players), and is yearly in the talk of National Championships.....maybe I should raise my expectations a bit.

Then why are you claiming to not care about Mizzou anymore and then immediately post about Mizzou in a Kansas football thread?

I've never understood why people are so protective about 'their school's thread'. Get it password protected if you are that butthurt.

Yes, butthurt.

I think they need to try to hire someone like him, an up and comer from a minor conference. They had the plan that was right for Kansas, they just picked a completely wrong person for the job. It gives them a better chance for continuity over the long term.

Could be. And this is MU's high.

Still an empty trophy case.

You guys really need some higher standards over there.
