Shooting at Arrowhead- Chiefs player commits suicide

No details yet. Just came across on the news.

edit: Sources say the player is Jovan Belcher. Police have yet to confirm.

An unnamed Kansas City Chiefs player has committed suicide at the team facility and authorities are on the scene, the police confirmed to ESPN on Saturday morning.

Local reports say police are operating with the belief the player fatally shot his girlfriend at a house before driving to Arrowhead Stadium and killing himself at around 8 a.m local time. The Associated Press reported the player's age to be 25.

"We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning," the Chiefs said in a statement. "We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."

There were no other injuries at the team facility, police said.

The Chiefs (1-10) were preparing to host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The NFL has told the Panthers to travel as planned to Kansas City on Saturday, the Charlotte Observer has reported, citing interim general manager Brandon Beane.

Do you think that people close to the girl could reasonably be offended by Bowe's t-shirt picture?

JFC, NO ONE is excusing the murder. People are taking into account the strange and sad state of having a friend and team mate that you always knew as a good guy go off the deep end with out warning. There are going to be mixed emotions there that is going to take some time to figure out and get a hold of.

This is not rocket science, folks.

Ha - because you carry on like murdering the mother of an infant is a "bad thing" a la stealing a pack of smokes.

To answer your dimwitted question - yes, killing the defenseless mother of your kid does erase all the "good things" you otherwise did in your life.

I do not condone Belcher's actions.

But how very close friends choose to process his actions in a state of complete shock... Bowe didn't shoot anybody. I haven't once heard a player justify Belcher's actions or speak badly about the family. Most of them seem genuinely sorry for the families that have to deal with the tragedy. I don't blame any single person for being an emotional wreck after losing a friend, I don't care what that person did. I don't blame anyone for what answers people find when nothing makes sense. It's been one hell of a weekend for these guys. Give them a break if they're not exactly acting perfectly.

Yes.

It is about time as a society we quit making excuses for bad behavior. We are going to hear them all in the near future like head trauma, drugs, alcohol. These are all excuses to make what he did seem less bad.

The guy pumped 9 bullets into his girlfriends body in front of his mom and child, got in a car and drove at a high rate of speed (putting more people in danger) to the Chiefs training facility to do who knows what. Then offs himself when the cops show up.

There is no excuse for what he did and there really is no excuse for the Chiefs Organization to have any Belcher related items anywhere. He should be cleansed from the organization and his name should never be repeated again.

Should people maybe try and take into account the entirety of the situation before throwing stones at him?

And these are people (the players) who literally know the families involved including JC's wife. Yet people here who have never met the families or personally know anyone involved know the best way for them to grieve for the horrendous situation.

Odd.

Yes it would. And if i had any moral compass left, i would have to spend the rest of my life attempting to atone for it, and that still would not likely be enough. I sure as **** wouldn't think people should celebrate me with tshirts and game dedications afterwards.

Have to disagree. We live on this planet, together. And we have to pass moral rules in this life. It is true that he will get a different set now.

Chiefs linebacker Belcher struggled with head injuries, alcohol and painkillers before he snapped and killed girlfriend: report
By TARA PALMERI and BART HUBBUCH in KANSAS CITY, MO., and LEONARD GREENE in NY
Last Updated: 7:23 PM, December 2, 2012
Posted: 5:32 PM, December 2, 2012
Kansas City Chiefs linebacker and former Long Island high-school star Jovan Belcher was allegedly battling football-related head injuries and booze, painkiller and domestic problems when he snapped and murdered his girlfriend before killing himself in front of two coaches Saturday.

A pal of Belcher’s told the Web site Deadspin.com that Kasandra Perkins, the mother of Belcher’s 3-month-old daughter, had threatened to leave him for good amid fighting between the pair.

The couple had only recently reconciled after Perkins left their rented house in Kansas City with the baby at one point to stay with friends. Perkins had returned, but friends said the relationship was still volatile.

Kansas City Chiefs running back Jovan Belcher (right) battled head injuries, drugs and alcohol before he snapped and killed his girlfriend Michele Perkins (left), friends said.
It didn’t help that he was drinking every day and taking painkillers while dealing with the effects of debilitating head injuries, the friend said.

Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt said today that Belcher was "a player who had not had a long concussion history.’’

Belcher, 25, and Perkins, 22, had argued for the last time when she returned home late from a concert Saturday morning. But the Belcher friend said the concert was only a “tipping point.”

“This was the result of a long-term conflict,” the pal said. “She made it clear that she was leaving and would contact a lawyer’’ to fight for custody and child support.

Cops today revealed that Belcher shot Perkins nine times before committing suicide with a different gun. His mother witnessed the slaying; she had been in town to help Perkins with the new baby, sources have said.

Belcher’s mother, Cheryl Shepherd, will now take custody of the couple’s infant daughter and plans to return with the child to the family’s West Babylon home, where her troubled son grew up, his relatives said.

The kin said the baby was in another room when Belcher snapped and unloaded on Perkins.

“[Shepherd’s] taking it as anyone else would've taken it,” said Belcher’s cousin, Eric Oakes, 20, who lives in the mom’s renovated house where Belcher grew up. “She just lost a son. We're all coming together.”

Oakes, wearing a game-warn Chief’s jersey with Belcher’s number 59 on it, said his cousin was his role model.

"[He's] always trying to steer me right. That's the only person I wanted to be like. A role model, basically my father. He's the person who made me play football,” said Oakes, who played running back for West Babylon HS.

In Kansas City, relatives trickled in an out of the home that had become a murder scene.

“I think she was home alone a lot,” said Kristen Van Meter, 31, a neighbor who went to community college with the victim. “He was kind of quiet. he would come and go.”

When he was there, she said, there were lots of parties.
