Chiefs This is not the first time...

For those of you who are not long time Chiefs fans, there was another tragic murder-suicide back in 1980 involving a Chiefs player. Jim Tyrer, who was an All-Pro tackle for the Chiefs, played his last game in KC in 1973. In 1980, he was having serious money troubles, and shot his wife dead, then killed himself, in his KC home with all four of his kids in the house.

That was very shocking in 1980. Tyrer wasn't an active player when he did this, but he was one of the Chiefs solid building block players, kind of like Will Shields or Tim Grunhard during his era. He protected Len Dawson's blind side.

Thanks, George. I actually didn't know Tryer killed himself, too. A lot of tragedy associated with this team, unfortunately.

Tyrer was widely considered the best to have ever played the position when he retired.

But did he kill himself at Arrowhead? That's what I find so dark about this story, he went to do it in front of Pioli and Crennel for some reason and I want to know why.

I'm sure all of us are wondering that as well. Did he instantly realize what he did was wrong, so he went to one of the few places he knew as safe?

I think Belcher went to Arrowhead because it was close to his GF's apartment. 53rd and Crysler is only about a mile or so from Arrowhead.

I think he went to Arrowhead to prove a point or he wanted attention from the coaching staff and Pioli, I don't know why, but it doesn't make sense why would he do this at the stadium. Man, it's gonna be ****ing creepy seeing this stadium tomorrow.

It's so bizarre.

An active NFL player killed himself in front of his Head Coach and GM.

And it was Jovan Belcher.

it's like out of the script of some terrible Hollywood 'B' movie...

I imagine there could be relationships built with coaches that he gravitated to. A young man a long way from home, there were probably people there as close to family as he could readily access.

it's no use trying to ascertain what, exactly, was going through his head; he obviously wasn't thinking clearly when he shot her in front of their daughter and his mother.

For those of you not familiar with the neighborhood, here's a map. The "A" is close to where the GF's apartment is located, Arrowhead is in the upper left corner. It's about a two mile or so distance.

Going to the Chiefs facility was the place where he knew he could get help at. My family's business has had employees not like this but life situations and they always seem to go to where they work.
