Geno Smith fans roll call

NEW THREAD HEADER (11/17/12):

The list is gone. We will all be Geno Smith fans when he gets drafted by the Chiefs. For historical documentation's sake, I'll keep the list in a separate post on this thread: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showp...postcount=3314

WHY GENO SMITH?
If you're wondering if Geno Smith is right for you, check out this brilliant post by Saccopoo:

http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showp...postcount=5388

Next, we have a few GIFs you may be interested in from the Oklahoma game. Insane potential. These are the elite throws that very few QBs can make. What more can I say? Geno Smith can be a franchise QB in the NFL, and the Chiefs need to take a shot on him.

GIF #1:
Spoiler!

GIF #2:
Spoiler!

GIF #3 (My favorite):
Spoiler!

HOW DO WE GET HIM HERE?

Glad you asked. I posted this checklist earlier. It probably belongs in the thread header, and will be updated as the Chiefs close out their season and start a new chapter in their franchise story.

Preparing for Geno Smith's Arrival In KC Checklist

1. [X] Lose games and acquire the #1 overall pick
2. [X] Get Pioli and the Patriot Way cronies the **** out
3. [X] Hire new GM/coach

OPTIONAL (but highly recommended):
4. [ ] Re-sign/tag Bowe, who really wants to play in KC with Geno
5. [ ] Re-sign/tag Albert

3. Get corner and ILB via FA or the draft
4. Start Breaston at the #2 WR spot and draft a potential upgrade.
5. Obtain another viable nickel/slot corner via draft/FA as well as safety.
I probably should have left off #6. That's when we start tinkering around with draft picks, which isn't really the point of the checklist. I mean, once Geno gets drafted, the preparation is over, and all those guys/acquisitions are likely going to come through the draft AFTER the Geno pick.

I like all those ideas, though. Once Draft Planet gets going, they can form a separate list, one that will have the input of several different minds

If we hire a guy like Bruce Arians to be the HC (cough, cough) and he brings in a DC that runs a 3-4 zone blitzing scheme similar to what Pittsburgh runs, a DL of

Poe LE
Powe NT
Bailey RE

Has some serious potential to get after people...especially with the set of linebackers we have playing behind them.

The problem with this is Powe and Bailey have not shown much at all.

You are grasping at ghosts.

You don't think Powe has displayed flashes to be an adequate shaded 1-tech?

I'll admit (even though I'm a Bailey nut hugger) that he probably isn't the answer at the 3-tech in a 1-gap. You really don't think Powe could be productive as a 1-gap NT? I don't think he'll be great but provide enough penetration from base fronts to be effective.

We have seen so little from him we really have no way of knowing.

You're literally basing this off a handful of good snaps.

His bad snaps as well. I think that he is a poor 2-gap player (slow recognition in pass v. run) but can displays a quality first step and rip to penetrate.

As I said, I don't think Powe is the answer, but he could be productive or a stop-gap.

Plus, I'll admit I like seeing guys from lower draft spots do well. I do like Jerrel and wish we played him as our shaded 1 in our sub pckg.

I don't get the fascination with playing Poe at end. I think I'd rather keep the freakishly strong 6'3, 350 pound guy in the middle.

He presents a significant mismatch at the 3-tech if he pans out. Think JJ Watt/ Justin Smith but huge. Keep in mind this is only in a 1-gap with Poe playing the 3-tech, which is what he plays on sub packages on occassion.

Have Powe and Bailey really done enough to warrant being penciled in as future starters? I don't think so. Neither has really done jack shit imo.

Hell, it's hard to even predict if either will make the team with a new coach imo.

But he's an ENTIRELY different player. He's nothing at all like Watt or Smith. Bailey is literally much, much more like Watt or Smith.

You can (and most do) rotate your DL many different ways to show different looks and give guys a breather, but I think Poe and Powe are your NT rotation, and Powe could occasionally spell a DE as well. I think Poe is in the middle anytime he's in the game and I think he belongs there.

Pitty, Jackson, Smith, and Bailey are actually a reasonable rotation at DE. Draft a guy or two in the mid rounds to compete and move on. Defensively, this team is not that far away, and the problems it does have aren't in the front 3 anymore, IMO.

This. I mean what are people thinking.

NT in a 3-4? - Vitality important in a 3-4. You hear it all the time. We waited for years and not finally have one. Now we want to move him? No thank you.

DE ? - Meh you can fill that position with cheap FA guys. (ex: Pitoitua) ie - not important.

Hey while we're at it lets finally get that Albert to LG move done.
