*.* 2014 General Fitness Thread *.*

Welcome to 2014! Now get your ass in top physical condition!

No one else started it so here it is!

**From the 2013 Thread**

If you want to get back into lifting, or need a new lifting routine, START HERE:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wi...inner_Programs

If you have questions about the SS programs, look here:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ

Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started.

Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE:

http://madcow.hostzi.com/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm

If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point.

Unbelievable, I was sick all last week and didnt work out at all for a full seven days, it was all I could do to go to work.

So I try on these jeans I havent wore in atleast a week and they're way bigger on me now than they were a week or so ago... I guess it just goes to show that once you get your metabolism cooking, even a week off wont kill you, in fact you'll still lose weight during that week if you're eating ok.

Do you typically eat a lot when you're sick?

I do, chowed down quite a bit, but tried my best to keep it healthy, being sick only rarely kills my appetite.

Once when I was young, I ate a can of Spaghettios when I had strep throat. Don't ever do that.

Now back to being healthy and stuff....

I wish! Still too much fat around the upper thigh and behind the knee. I will get there, though!

There are a lot of benefits to eating a lot of protein, mainly that it almost never turns to fat and it's incredibly satiating. The same cannot be said for the other macronutrients. There's a lot more room for error in a high protein diet than one high in fat and/or carbs. This is assuming you are eating the protein, not drinking it.

Silly question.. or maybe not..

How come those studies never state whether the subjects were fed complete or incomplete source of protein? Is that not as important as the overall amount eaten? I would think it would be, no?

From what I have read of the current research, whether or not you eat a complete protein is less relevant than whether or not you're getting enough of the right kinds of individual proteins for your goals. For instance, you can get away with eating a more incomplete protein at meal times if you are taking something like a high leucine BCAA, or if your protein powder is fortified with them. Some proteins may be "complete" in terms of having all of the essential proteins, but the ratios may not be ideal.

I hope this makes sense.

It does, thanks. Whats your $.02 on BCAA intra-workout? I currently take Xtend during my workouts, and used to take Purple Wraath, which is a EAA.. is one preferred over the other? I was taking Xtend during the day before I started CNS, but I read (i think from Kiefer) that Luecine can exhibit a insulin response. I was using it as a water flavor enhancer (expensive solution), since stopped and just use those Mio drop thingys.

Thank for the input everyone. NewChief, I'm hoping it was just not being that prepared physically and lack of rehydrating properly that caused it. I've been pretty active all my life and never had issues in the past.

I will look into the other macro nutrients and where we should be there as well. Thanks again.

It's not necessary. But it also depends on your goals. It won't hurt anything to take them intra workout, and it will be used as an energy source. It will also be used for muscle protein synthesis and helps a lot wit that. But yes, it will induce an insulin response, and it isn't necessary to have them during the workout, considering the anabolic window is so long.
