Random ChiefsPlanet Stats

There are all sorts of stats about the forum buried in the Admin CP. I'd love to make those available to everyone, but I haven't really found an add-on that does it well. But, I'm a stats geek, so I might bump this thread from time to time with useless tidbits that I find interesting.

I randomly remembered this thread today and figured I'd update some stuff just out of curiosity. Here are a couple interesting things.

In terms of number of posts, things have definitely been slowing down here over the past few years. We hit our peaks in annual posts in 2009 (not shown) and 2013, which suggests that a new coach giving us hope after a few years in the dumps tends to drive a lot of conversation. On the other hand, you might say "See! Look what happens when Clay and Hootie get banned!" but the trend really started long before that, so I'm not sure that makes a huge difference.

My personal take is just that shitty teams drive conversation. When no one trusts the coach and front office know what they're doing, it's easy to have a lot of thread about all the things they should be doing differently. When a common response is "I trust Dorsey and Reid. Let's see what happens." there's just not a lot of discussion to be had. That, in combination with a variety of other decent options for Chiefs news and discussion that have come around in the past 5 years or so, is quieting things down quite a bit.

I find this one kind of fascinating. In 2011, we were averaging around twice as many threads posted per day as we did in 2015 (and are on pace for in 2016). If you needed evidence of how much of an impact mega threads have had on this place, there it is. (And for the record, posts are obviously down as well between the two years, but not by near that much of a ratio.)

Anyway, there are obviously a million ways to look at this stuff, but those were the two that stood out to be as being kind of interesting. The end.

The reason our post count has declined is because Clay isn't on her stating Alex Smith sucks 400 times a day.

By request from lewdog, here's the 2016 update of our overall posts by year.

Post count isn't everything - I think we're rather have high-quality content more than high-quantity content, but things are definitely slowing down around here. Here's the average number of people logged in per day:

My guess is that most of the drop is due to the growth of a lot of other types of social media where people get their news, like ArrowheadPride, reddit, even the Chiefs themselves. I think the age of the flat forum is probably just plain coming to an end. But still, it's part of the motivation to try and see if we can make this place a little more attractive moving forward.

So realistically CP has maybe 4-5 quality years left at this rate unless somehow we can generate a way to get some more traffic around here. Now that I think about it, I could probably count on one hand the number of new users I have noticed posting in threads over the past 6 months.. and most of those are probably mults anyway.

Losing Endelt 260 was a severe blow and then Phil left.

If we could only get badgirl back it would liven things up.

And Blueballs. Don't forget Blueballs, the bastard child conceived from anal sex. Do you remember how many stupid threads that guy started? And he just got piled on back then because nobody cried to the mods because most people didn't know who they were.
