Life Parental Advice- Re: Xbox 360 - Page 12

Alright, my 11 year old son said a friend of his "gave" him his copy of Black Ops 2, because he thought he had lost it... got another copy and gave this other copy to my son.

I don't want my kids playing these violent video games, as it is, so I wouldn't buy this game for him.

Well, my son's friend's mom just called me and told me that they couldn't find the game anywhere... and they last remember playing it when my son was there.

My son then changed his story when confronted, saying that he was "borrowing" it and that his friend said that he could.

This is the third instance of him grabbing something that doesn't belong to him. He used my stored credit card in the XBOX to buy a bunch of credits to download games about 7-8 months ago. He took a gold peace sign necklace from my mom about 4 months ago. And now this.

So, should I sell the XBOX 360 or not? My instinct says yes. What say you?

TL;DR my son stole something for the 3rd time in the past 8 months, should I sell the XBOX?

Give that box to your daughter and use time restrictions per usual. It'll keep that thought in your boy's head, which imo needs reinforcment to the max. that boy is going to get major trouble for those actions in the future if you don't nip it now.

I like the idea of giving the Xbox to the daughter. It kinda rubs it in the boy's face. He gets to watch his sister enjoy his favorite toy, reminding him of what he did wrong while simultaneously rewarding your daughter for NOT stealing.

when the day comes he (appropriately) asks for some playtime on it, let sis decide (with adult guidance).

Just ground the kid from the Xbox. Turning this into a potential hotspot between siblings is not a good idea especially since there has been a lapse of parental supervision over the Xbox in the first place.

Do not get rid of the box but limit the access of the party who committed the offense. The daughter did nothing wrong why does she have to suffer the consequences of a siblings actions. That is not quite fair.

Yesterday, he came home from school... we went outside, and shot some hoops. He then went upstairs and played a few songs on the piano. Then went to Taekwondo. Then he went to his basketball practice where he owned. A day with zero technology wasn't the end of the world for him.

Kids will just be better off in the long run without motivation sucking video games to veg on all day.

So, this could have been a blessing in disguise.
